I think it looks very nice too. I always thought the 5200 version was pretty awesome, even though Mario looked a little thin in the face; however, I would have been much more impressed if the original Mario was like this one! I really like the shellcreeper(turtle) and fighterfly upgrades too. I always thought the original sidesteppers (Crabs) were pretty dead-on to the original though.

Oh Yeah! And I really like the floor and POW. Those were always two disappointments in the original, along with the missing icicles. Even though the sliding and jumping were off on this version, it holds a lot of good childhood battle memories.

To Atari's credit (in the later years when they were doing everything wrong) they really had a pretty awesome version with Mario Bros XE. If you've never seen that, it's pretty awesome. It's the only home version I know of that includes the icicles, displays all the point values, includes the animations, and it has full-sized fireballs! Not even Nintendo captured this in their own versions; but they didn't even match the detail (other than graphic-wise) that the 5200 captured. (kicking shells over, catching fire when hit by a fireball, etc)

Again... Nice Job! I know I got a little off subject.. lol.

Just for fun, I added a quick arcade clip of what none of the home versions captured successfully. Of course, I cheated to get to this level and the turned the cheats off. I hope it brings back some fun memories for someone else..MarioBros.wmv

I always remembered icicles in the 5200 version and the freezing boards (or at least the 5200 version that was hacked for the 8bit computers). Seems like I remember the icicles missing on the C64 version a friend had.

The jumping and physics in the 5200 version used to be a riot in two player games though. I remember on the computer version at least, you could get bouncing directly straight up and down on the other players head where he could keep you until a turtle or crab happened by to drop you onto.

Do you mean the SlipIce, or the icicles? The icicles formed under the levels and dropped all the way to the water when they got full-sized (See arcade video I posted.) The 5200 DID have the SlipIce that freezes the floor. If I remember, the C64 version had them, but they didn't freeze the floors. Anyway, I am with you on the two player thing. My friend and I would stay up ALL night battling, and I remember the frustrations when one of us would juggle the other straight up and down!! I forgot about that. None of the other versions would allow that - even the arcade. Thanks for that memory!
