Ze_ro
Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted. Once upon a time there were no video games. People actually read fairy tales for kicks. Well, the biggest hit around was the one about three little piggies who were into building houses. Unfortunately, an unsavory character named Bigelow B. Wolf was into blowing them down. It was a real drag. Until now. Because, lo and behold, today we've got Oink! A video game that lets you lend those little guys a hand. Game Information Game Name: Oink! Released By: Activision, 1984 Left Difficulty: A / Expert - Must Place Bricks Manually Right Difficulty: N/A Game Mode: Game 1 Post your scores right here in this thread, and I will add them to the list. Remember to play the game with the recommended game mode and difficulty settings as shown above so that your scores will be consistent with everyone elses. The deadline for posting scores is Wednesday February 2nd at 1:00 AM (Central Time, UTC-6). Challenges Patch Challenge - Oinkers - Score 25,000 points or more and you get 2 bonus points! Art Challenge - Draw a picture illustrating a scene from the Three Little Pigs fairy tale and you get 4 bonus points!Vocelli [+4] Miss 2600 [+4] atariUCLA24 [+4] JacobZu7zu7 [+4] toymailman [+4] Current High Scores 4308 (Gorfy) [+11] 4228 (toymailman) [+10] 3672 (Vocelli) [+9] 2492 (Miss 2600) [+8] 2312 (Scrabbler15) [+7] 2276 (JacobZu7zu7) [+6] 1932 (leematari) [+5] 1792 (Curious Sofa) [+4] 1412 (Frostbite76) [+3] 1316 (roadrunner) [+2] 1292 (rmaerz) [+1] 1200 (atariUCLA24) [+1] 1080 (oyamafamily) [+1] 912 (Krytol) [+1] 568 (LarcenTyler) [+1] Best Tips Gorfy [+2] TwinGalaxies Top 3 (Game 1, Difficulty B)999,999 (Todd Rogers, David B Yancey) 188,240 (Alan W Hewston) 63,072 (James Randall) Current Standings toymailman [302] JacobZu7zu7 [276] Scrabber15 [235] oyamafamily [228] Deteacher [208] Miss 2600 [161] roadrunner [142] Jifremok [114] zylon [66] Zoyx [55] LarcenTyler [54] Chuck D. Points are earned every time your Pig drops an object in place in the wall. Objects in the first row are worth 4 points each. Point values for each object increase by 4 with each new row. For example, in row 6, each object is worth 24 points. In row 7, each object is worth 28 points. Hints and Tips The Manual As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a typed copy and a scanned copy available online. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide any specific hints. Gorfy Playing Oink is murder on the wrist/elbow, and it doesn't take very long for fatigue to set in. Instead of using a regular joystick, you might want to try a less bulky controller such as the joypad, if you have one, or perhaps a controller with the fire button at the top of the handle. When your piglet comes out at the start of each level, you don't have to start right away if you need a rest. The big, bad wolf will not come out until you start moving your piglet, so stay still and rest your hand a little bit before moving on. --Zero
oyamafamily
NOTE ABOUT SCORING POINTS IN OINK: The maximum value for dropping each object in place in the wall is 400 points, and this value is applicable in Rows 100, 101, 102, and so fourth. SPECIAL NOTE: This game ends automatically at the maximum score - 999,999 points! The scoreboard will display 999999 in this case! Lauren Tyler
568 It's times like this you realize just how difficult Oink! can be by making you go all the way down.
oyamafamily
PARTICIPATION POINT - 1080 :D :D This time I will not try again because I have 20 points away from Deteacher (5th place) - see the current standings after Round 8.22 (Off The Wall) on 2600 HSC. Gorfy
A couple quick tips for those who aren't familiar with this game: 1. Playing Oink is murder on the wrist/elbow, and it doesn't take very long for fatigue to set in. Instead of using a regular joystick, you might want to try a less bulky controller such as the joypad, if you have one, or perhaps a controller with the fire button at the top of the handle. 2. When your piglet comes out at the start of each level, you don't have to start right away if you need a rest. The big, bad wolf will not come out until you start moving your piglet, so stay still and rest your hand a little bit before moving on. toymailman
James Randall (toymailman), congrats for the 3rd best score verified and confirmed by Twin Galaxies on this game!! Thanks oyama! Vocelli
Ok... Lets get on the board. My best tip. Wear golf gloves. The way I hold the controller caused me to develop a blister on my left palm. Hence, golf glove. Vocelli: 1996

Miss 2600
LOL!! Dang, you guys aren't making this game sound very fun! I just dug out the cartridge and will be giving it a try soon. I don't have any golf gloves, though.

Miss 2600
I don't think I'll be playing this game a lot. That 25,000 for a patch score couldn't possibly be on the expert setting. An Oink! leather jacket would be a more worthy prize for that (well, maybe not leather 1,
Miss 2600
Improvement: 1,736 I've been experimenting taking bricks from the middle first or from the edges. I haven't really found a good strategy yet. I guess it depends on where the wolf starts doing most of the damages.
