Nukey Shay
Nintendo Drops The Bomb: Picked this up from the DP thread... http://www.consoletalk.com/News/FullStory.php?id=146 The original DP discussion is here... http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic....p?p=43572#43572 Possible Bullsh*t story...dunno yet. joeybastard
I remember reading about the failed "Playstation" CD for the SNES in a book about Nintendo called "Game Over". I was wondering then if Nintendo had any rights to the name. If this is true, I'm glad. I much prefer the N to Sony.
Inky
Iwas wondering if this was ever going to come about.
Nukey Shay
IF it's true, then more companies than just Sony are involved. This could be a bit messy for the future.
MegaManFan
I was lucky enough to see the original SNES/PSX proto-type at the CGExpo (was even allowed to take a few pictures of it) but it never occurred to me at the time that "Playstation" was anything other than a wholly owned Sony name. I had always assumed they came up with it after the relationship with Nintendo fell apart. Wow.
Lost Monkey
I have a feeling that this story is utter BS. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding a "Megaton" anouncement from Nintendo over the last 2 months (which was supposed to occur this week.) There have been reports over the last few days that Nintendo has purchased Capcom and merged with Sega as well...

CPUWIZ
I actually still have the development documents for this SNES CD addon and it was called the PSX, that's why Sony didn't like consumers referring to the PlayStation as the PSX because the prototype they did for Nintendo was called that. Dunno about this story though, sounds a little weird.
ShinRyu05
yeh sounds fishy to me
Mikau
the reason i dont believe this is because only 1 site has put it up. when something big happens (like MS buying rare), every site on the web puts it up, even those not about gaming! Nukey Shay
Fishy indeed...the story's been removed from the site. I guess we have an answer

Nukey Shay
It piggy-backed? I always thought that it went underneath...like the original SegaCD.

Thankx Here's the one I took at the Expo:http://www.RapReviews.com/cgexpo/snescd.jpg Hehe, I still have one or two of those proto controllers, they actually used those on the first revision of the PlayStation development hardware (the one without a sound chip). moycon
I remember reading about this in one of the newer game books released over the past few years. I had no idea there were prototypes made. Any games made as well???
jjessop
The pictured SNES/PlayStation adaptor was/is a dev system target device for the SNES CD add on. A few games were completed and I have 2 of them, I did not show them at CGE because the rights to the titles were never finalized and one is a Disney license. The device is NOT my personal property BTW and is owned by my employer where it currently resides. Not unlike the original Stella prototype story, some quick thinking employee fished it out of the garbage and gave it to me for the archives. It was originally part of the Sony Imagesoft studios group.

z28in82
Very funky, how it is roughly a PSx controller just upside down.

For your own privacy Jerry, I wasn't mentioning that you were the one who showed it to me - but you've let the cat out of the bag now anyway so I'd like to say THANK YOU AGAIN for giving me the opportunity to see it, as well as the ORIGINAL Atari arcade game. Computer Space is sweet!
jjessop
hehe....no worries, I just wanted to come clean with where it came from and what it was. PlayStation (original) stuff is almost in "classic" territory now so I did not feel It was out of bounds bringing it to CGE. jj
