Tyrop
Has anyone heard about this? Pretty cool idea from Commodore to relaunch a "modernized" C64. http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx
Cebus Capucinis
Nope, never heard of it. Never even read a thread about the same thing on AtariAge today, either..... http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/179940-commodore-usa/ Awaiting Zwackery..... S1500
You could take a modern computer, put a piece of tape on it and write "COMMODORE 64" and it would be just about the same thing. While it looks nice, it's just that. Not a "relaunch". It's a case hack.

I then smeared "Edsel" in the excrement, but somehow, I don't think I'll convince anyone it's the same as the infamous automobile, even though it looks and smells similar. Rybags
Seen it - not sure if linked by here. A 1200XL form-factor PC would be nice. But on the other hand, I don't really see a great deal of sense in a PC that doesn't know if it's a desktop or laptop. With a laptop, you're sacrificing expandabiltiy (graphics especially) for the abiilty to use it anywhere. Putting a PC in an Atari or C= case essentially means you're building a monitor-less laptop, which is a questionable exercise.
MEtalGuy66
This like the 3rd time someone has started a thread on this in here in the last 6 months.. It's a PC in a custom case, with a C= emulator in ROM... It's kewl that they have actually gotten a new case injection molded, and a nice clicky keyboard made.. Other than that, it's just a PC... Pretty cool idea from Commodore to relaunch a "modernized" C64. http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx Not sure I see the point really. They also have "Amiga's" on their website which are just HTPC cases. Again, pointless. I guess they're trying to cash in on the name.
Mirage
I said the same in the other threads that I've seen in the past about this -- destined to fail, yet again.
Rybags
Plenty will buy it. So long as the tooling cost gets covered, they might make a nice profit on the thing. 1450 PC - no way. That'd make as much sense as bolting a keyboard permanently to the front of a horizontal desktop case. One of the biggest "likes" of modern PCs for me is that you can move the keyboard to any angle you want, and there's only 1 cable to worry about. Mirage
Time will tell. I don't see them selling too many of these things at all. I'm about as diehard a C= fan as anyone, and even I have no interest in it.
oky2000
Why would you want a rubbish low power x86 PC Linux motherboard in a fancy case that looks like (choose 400/800/XL/XE) for 600 bucks? Strange people!! It's an OK custom case design but it sure as hell isn't worth $350-400.
sloopy
that company has annouced several products that no one has had in hands... hmm... would make a good machine to run Atari800 2.2.0 :'D sloopy.
carmel_andrews
following on from what sloopy said....perhaps this 'new' commodore company should ressurect the c=one (commodore one) project....which is basically very similar to what commodore are doing, with the exception that the commodore one is a multi-system emulator and this rejigged c64 is a single system emulator
+remowilliams
perhaps this 'new' commodore company should ressurect the c=one (commodore one) project....which is basically very similar to what commodore are doing No, the C-One is almost totally unlike this 'C64'... This thing is a cheapo PC in a box, the C-One is a dynamically reconfigurable FPGA based system.
sloopy
Remo, you forgot the other big thing... C-One is a real product people have... and Commodore USA has a bunch of products that... well you see... sloopy.
SpaceDice2010
Someone is putting some money behind the new Commodore. They are co-branding with Tron Legacy - http://disney.go.com/tron/index_flash.html#/partners
oky2000
So? Doesn't change the fact it is a standard PC motherboard with PC Linux running Linux C64 emulator in a fancy case that looks like a C64 but can't accept REAL joysticks with 9 pin D-connector These are $600 and the markup for seller and producer = 200% *PASS*
Mirage
Someone is putting some money behind the new Commodore. They are co-branding with Tron Legacy - http://disney.go.com/tron/index_flash.html#/partners I have a feeling it's the new "Commodore" (sorry, I can't say that with a straight face) just paying for ads. So yeah, money coming from somewhere to be able to afford that. Hey, I'd give the new "Commodore" a chance if I saw them doing anything sustainable or worthwhile. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems the market for this overpriced junk is just so limited.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems the market for this overpriced junk is just so limited. A newly-minted *actual* 64 system - like a C-One (or similar) inside there with a 1541 Ultimate-type-thingy built in, and component/HDMI-out would be a better deal. Unfortunately, the market is probably limited for either. However, they sold so damn many C64s that the nostalgia they're shooting for with the PC-creation might be about the same for a "real" modern 64. Maybe not. At $200 they'd get some takers, not $600-up. This is probably going to be a failed experiment. So when they're clearanced (not $600) it would possibly make a good collector's item in the future, even if a questionable business plan now.

Fox-1 / mnx
Let's hope Atari does not shove a micro PC in an Atari casing. Why not? It's not like that you'll have to buy it. Well, I won't. As a project it could be a nice thing. http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/atari800/
phaxda
From: http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/112510/new-commodore-64-nyt The new Commodore 64, which will begin shipping at the end of the month, has been souped up for the modern age. It comes with a 1.8 gigahertz dual-core processor, an optional Blu-ray player and built-in ethernet and HDMI ports. It runs the Linux operating system but the company says you can install Windows if you like. The new Commodore is priced between $250 to $900. Bolding mine, because I'd be thinking about one at $250. It would look quite at home on my desk!
