Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball...

Markimus of K.

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I just came accross a bit on Gamespot that DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball is being released for the XBox on Jan 19. Does anyone know if this is an XBox exclusive and if so, for how long, six months? Forever? Any release info for the PS2 or GC? I never knew such a game was in the works until today (I must be sheltered). Although I would like to shake the hand of the guy who approved such a worthy title!

Up untill now, no XBox title has even come close to getting me interested in buying the system. Could this be my "Killer App"? Will have to wait for the reviews.

as always,

Markimus of K.

For Next Time...

Will Markimus of K. go over to the Dark Side (Microsoft)???

Will it be released for the PS2 and save the day???

AND... What if if blows either way???

(hey, that last bit rhymed!)

STAY TUNED!!!

I don't really understand the hype over this game... Volleyball is okay at best, and although the DOA girls are pretty hot, there's plenty of free porn available on the net.

If you're heart isn't set on the DOA girls, there's a game called Beach Spikers for the Gamecube that's pretty much the same idea (bikini & volleyball). It's a Sega game, so the quality is probably quite high.

Beach Spikers is more of a arcade volleyball game with bad graphics, when compared to DOAX(Tecmo's abreviation for Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball). Outlaw Volleyball is like the NLF Blitz of volleyball games, over the top and not too deep. OV is also kinda trashy in my opinion, with one of the volleyball courts in a female prison and one in a back alley in a getto.

DOAX is is like a volleyball simulation/RPG/relationship sim. DOAX takes place on an island with day and night cycles and time passes. The island also has tides, some courts are only available at low tide. During the day you play volleyball matches, play minigames, explore the island and buy items at shops, with your winnings. At night, you can spend your earnings, watch movies in your hotel room and visit the island casino.

In DOAX you also need to monitor your relationship with your partner, the better the relationship, the better you play volleyball together. Some of the characters naturally like each other, while some are enemies(from the DOA fighting games). If they are enemies, then a relationship is harder to build. Winning helps build a better relationship and you also need to buy gifts for yourself and your partner to build on your relationship and trust and to make your partner feel better. For example, if your partners favorite color is red, you would be better off buying her a red bikini over a black one. Each character in the game has a story and more information will be revealed about your character and as to who they are.

Like most fighting games, the Dead or Alive series has a cult following of people who have mastered the games and know all kinds of details about the fighters, fighting styles and the tournaments. To them, DOAX is not only a great volleyball game, but a chance to get to know the characters better and what makes them tick, in the unfolding world of DOA.

In respose to the porn and DOAX post. There is always some heckler comment like this in every forum. How about you look at it as a form of artwork, not porn. Were World War II bomber crews people who needed to "get out more" because they chose an image of a beautiful pin-up girl to represent their plane? Is Alberto Vargas(the artist who is credited with inventing the pin-up girl) or the people who spend big bucks to collect his artwork a bunch of pervs? Enjoying the artwork of a beautiful woman and playing a damn good volleyball game is not porn.

DOAX is also only on the Xbox. Team Ninja and Tecmo signed a deal with Microsoft. Team Ninja also said that graphically, the game couldn't be done on any other console(of course it could be done, but not an exact port). DOAX also uses the Xbox hard drive for a user music soundtrack.

Tecmo also doesn't make games for the Nintendo Gamecube, just the PS2 and Xbox. DOA3 sold a million copies on the Xbox worldwide, so the relationship between Microsoft and Tecmo is fairly $trong, if you get my drift.

LO f*ckin L!!

The bomber crews plastered the noses of cockpits with pinup girls because they could go at any moment and wanted any last sight they had to be at least something that they didn't mind looking at. Works of art are at the very least trying to convey some type of message (which many pinups manage to do). But a jiggle game? That's put in as eye candy, not great artwork. Would I object to it? Hell no if it's a decent game...as a guy, the jiggles would be just an added bonus for me. But I wouldn't go as far as calling it some great work of art. If its' gameplay sucks last year's donkeys...they might as well be digitized monkeys playing.

Next you'll be telling us that you literally "read" Playboy.

No offense to anyone looking forward to this game... but that sounds really lame. I mean Pokemon lame. Buying gifts for characters in the game to make them feel better is worse than just enjoying the porn...

You mean that you've never bought candy or roses for a teammate??

I bought a linebacker a yellow bikini once. Stuck-up beast never called me once. :( :ponder: Maybe red was his color (?)

"That's an interesting watch...Are you a Laker?"

"I used to date one...the watch is the only thing that I have to remember him"

You don't really believe these games have disproportioned super human half naked females to appeal to art lovers do you? You're kidding right?

In my post I mentioned the real porn, and getting out more. This is meant to encourage the members of the community that real life still beats the snot out of video games. I love games but locking yourself in a room to get horny over a video game is not as rewarding or healthy as going out and meeting real women. There is no argument you can make to refute that. I also mentioned in my post to play the game first to

check out the gameplay not just buy it for polygon tittie screens. We've all played games that looked great and played like crap.

Art... :D

Come on dude, everyone knows that linebackers are into pink bikini's, especially if they play for the Cowboys. Try that next time and maybe you will get lucky.

So everyone who likes DOAX is an automatic hard-up perv who needs to get out? For all we know anyone in this chat room could be some super stud who is pulling in hot chicks left and right.

As for the gameplay, all the previews have been positive so far. Tokyopia.com wrote up a review of the game a few weeks ago and called the volleyball gameplay, digital crack. IGN made Tokyopia take the review down though, because I guess they made a deal with Tecmo to have the first review on the internet. If you go by Tecmo's recent games, such a DOA3 and Rygar, the majority of the reviews have been great. It is looking like DOAX will be another good game from Tecmo. This is cut and pasted from the Tokyopia review(before IGN made them take it down:

"But DOAX is nothing less than a surgical reinvention of the series. It's the yin to the fighting game's yang. From the moment the title screen boots up, with a rotating lush tropical island and the bouncy strains of 'How Crazy Are You?' -- you're entering a relaxed, utopian gaming. Relax, the game says. Slow down. There's no hardship in this place. There is not a frustrating, aggressive, un-fun line of code in this entire game. It has been designed from start to finish as an exercise in unadulterated, chilled out joy. I really, really dug it."

"The heart of the game is, nonetheless, the volleyball game. I'm pleased to say that this, frankly, plays like digital crack....................Couple this with the emotional element of choosing/buying different play partner, and you have a strangely compelling, strategic volleyball experience."

Granted, this is only one review. I guess we will find out more as more reviews come in.

I never said everyone who likes the game is a hard up perv. I said buying the game just for half naked polygon renderings is pathetic. This will be the 3rd time I've said it, TRY THE GAME FIRST TO SEE IF THE GAMEPLAY IS GOOD.

And I hope everybody on the boards is pulling in hot members of whatever sex they prefer. :)

Sorry, but I have a hard time trusting a website that makes secret deals with the company who's product they're reviewing. The only reviews I actually trust are user submitted ones like at GameFAQs, and even then, they're to be taken with a grain of salt.

The only real way to find out if it's good is to play it and decide for yourself.

It pisses me off sometimes how everyone is so hypnotized by Japanese style gaming. Although there are a lot of good Japanese games, there's lots of weird crap that really sucks. I'm not saying this game falls into either category, but the second one is a definite possibility regardless of what some website says.

Honestly, while the hype is probably over the girls I'm interested in this game too. I love the DOA fighting games, and DOA3 is about the only reason I'm looking into getting an XBox (well, that and DVD support, believe it or not.)

I'm very interested to play DOAX not because it combines boobs and bikinis, but because it combines volleyball and gambling.

I used to play volleyball in real life. I like the sport. I played Malibu Beach Bikini Volleyball on the Lynx to death. I enjoy gambling a little, especially when it involves little or no real money. I played Hoyle Casino on my Dreamcast constantly for hours on end.

It all depends on how the volleyball plays and what games the casino has. If the gameplay is there, the visuals don't really matter much to me. Isn't that why we're all on an Atari board anyway? It isn't like our Atari has released anything groundbreaking since the Jaguar...
