Rex Dart
Hi, I've had this model 2 Genesis sitting around for several years. It was given to me because the 1st player's control port doesn't appear to work at all. Is this a known issue, hopefully with a known fix? Should I just throw it out? Use it for a case for a modded Radica sega?
zylon
Board might be cracked from being stepped on/dropped. I've seen that often.
STICH666
The solder joints get brittle over time. I've seen it happen alot on DB9 connectors mainly in Coleco Gemini's. Just reflow the solder and it should be fine.
nathanallan
Agreed with Stitch, it might be that the port got used so much, plugging and unplugging that the contacts have broken loose from the board. And stepping on it will definitely break something.
Rex Dart
Cool, I'll give that a try when I find the damned thing... it's been packed away since my last move.
Bruce Tomlin
Bad solder joints. Reflow 'em. I found a Gen2 once where about half the solder joints on both ports and the power jack were bad.
DickNixonArisen
Yep. Easy. I wouldn't say common in the gen, i've had more than ten model 2's (they're SO cheap, how can I say no?) and never seen that particular problem. The gemini, for sure. Love that thing but it was made very shoddily; plastic too.
Rex Dart
Cool, solder reflow fixed it. Thanks for the suggestion. Incidentally, anybody know where to get replacement screws for it? This one has no case screws... Edited July 14, 2011 by Rex Dart

nathanallan
Use box tape, it's clear and gives a neat sheen around the edges. Works for me when I have any kind of case that doesn't have screws, and holds for years.
Rex Dart
True, but I want to build a 32x into this case and tape doesn't fit into my plans so well. Any chance that the 32x's own screws will fit? Guess I can try later.
