Cebus Capucinis
I figure I've gotten enough flak from the 2600 guys for my projects, I'll see if I can get some from the A8 guys. I did harvest all the chips and components before doing this. Power LED works with lamp and no modification is visible (uses the original Atari 400 power switch). Enjoy. Or hate. Whatever you want. For the record I will not be making more than 1 of these, ever. Not for sale. Just for my little office near my 130XE to light my Atari computing! (I should add I didn't have an X-Acto knife on me when I made the shade, so I had to eyeball it and still need to cut it to fit.)

Cebus Capucinis
I'm going to gut a dead 1050 next and put in a little CD player, paint some computer speakers beige and brown to match the motif and have an Atari stereo to go with it on my desk.
fibrewire
It would have been really slick if you had wired up a LED lamp with a ring diffuser for this project, and make it take power from the cartridge port. You could've called the cartridge "LAMP" and kept a working Atari 400
Cebus Capucinis
It would have been really slick if you had wired up a LED lamp with a ring diffuser for this project, and make it take power from the cartridge port. You could've called the cartridge "LAMP" and kept a working Atari 400. Now, see, that's just the attitude I was hoping from you A8 gents -- you guys are brilliant geniuses and I hoped you could come up with cool improvements! Although this 400 was dead from the moment I got it -- I purchased it at a savers thrift store for $3.99, and when I cracked it open some board traces and components were fried. It would likely have never been a working 400 anyway. Also now that I have my own cool office one-of-a-kind lamp, I won't be making any "new" lamps to post at all. I'm weaning myself from the lamp addiction, LOL. I'll still probably make 2600 lamps to-order but no more new lamps. I got the one I always wanted in this bad boy! sloopy
i have always liked your lamps, very nice... i wanted one done with the OSS langauge boxes, but never saw the point in asking you if you could make one since i dont have a lamp in my office... also if you need a donor 1050 case, i have one... needs a little bit of 'sun', (i.e. retrobright ;'), but has no innards... someone tried to 'fix' the board, and wasnt 'very' successful, and i sold the mech to someone in need... just shoot me an offer of trade or pittance + shipping, and its yours... if you want to get our fur ruffled just call that a 'Jay Minor-400 lamp' ;') sloopy. Wickeycolumbus
That's sweet It'd be really cool if you could somehow make a lamp out of one and still use it as a computer. Then you'd have a light while computing.

+orpheuswaking
You know, I know someone looking for a 400 lid maybe you should hook them up... And I'd love some a8 lampshades.
Reaperman
The plastic they made those out of seems pretty tough, and there's a lot of metal shielding in the area... maybe a halogen bulb and diffuse the light as it bounces off the ceiling. kind of like a torchiere lamp. Then just close the cart cover when it's done and it looks stock. I don't know for sure if she could take the heat or remain a usable lamp, but 'too bright to look directly at' sounds cool to me. There's more ataris than atari fans by far. What's to hate on about a recycling project? Edited July 26, 2011 by Reaperman
