sometimes99er
The "land movement" of Devastator just for a bit of reference - and the explosion. Is there more to this game ? Nope, that's all there is. I ported that to TI BASIC back in the day since I didn't have XB yet when it came out. Hehe, we were crazy back then, and I guess we still are to mess around with this ol' toy. I assume you "simply" had characters moving around instead of sprites. Guess you haven't got your TI Basic version laying around anymore.

Yeah.. it was slow and not very exciting, and I think there was a bug that sometimes left holes in the background, but it was worth it to see the color cycle animation. It's just time-based, you always eventually lose. It did inspire a Jaguar game I did a couple years ago for a contest though. Based on the 'Earth always blows up anyway' concept, in my game you were trying to destroy the Earth (also the base at the bottom of the screen was completely unnecessary ): TI BASIC version... a quick look says I don't have it any more. But the only difference would have been the ship and the sight moving by characters, and collision if they hit the same cell. sometimes99er
Very cool. Very much Devastator. I really expected Earth to "blow up".
Tursi
Hehe, the only reason I didn't play harder to record a game I actually won in is that the game was never finished, and the "spectacular explosion" I wanted was never coded. It just says "'SPLODE. YOU WIN!"
GratedTopping
It just says "'SPLODE. YOU WIN!" Now, if it said 'YOU'RE WINNER!', that would have been awesome.
+Vorticon
Those old guys certainly knew how to squeeze XB... I wonder if the Buck Rogers style of land movement could be done in XB by rotating the color sets? 800 REM EARTH DESTROYED 810 GOSUB 790 :: FOR I=8 TO 0 STEP -1 :: CALL HCHAR(7+I,25-I,95):: CALL COLOR(8,INT(RND*<img src='http://www.atariage.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8)' />+9,1):: NEXT I 820 FOR J=1 TO 40 :: NEXT J Line 810 is corrupted... Tursi
That smiley with sunglasses should be an '8' and close parenthesis, IIRC.

Yeah, I was correcting it as soon as you posted this. I still don't know what character combos give different faces.
