Zedex
I recently got my Atari 2600 4-switch woodie, but one of the controllers has no rubber feet, no orange trim, and it's stiff and unresponsive. I find that when I move the joystick right, it rarely works. Should I return this to the store and get a better one?
SlowCoder
Sounds like a Vader model CX40 (all black, no feet). Have you tested it in both ports to verify it's not a problem with the console?
Zedex
yep. I use an earlier model CX40 for most of my 2600 gaming, but I still need another CX40 for the second player.
SlowCoder
CX40 controllers are quite simple devices, no internal electronics. Open it up and make sure all 6 of the wires are connected to the PCB. If you have a multimeter, check that the wires are all conductive to the cable connector. Check also, the base of the white stick and make sure it isn't worn out or broken. Zedex
I'd rather have an original CX40, because I use a 4-switch woodgrain, and I want it to match. But my local retrogaming store doesn't have any more original CX40's. Would anyone care to trade?
