what exactly is "batari Basic"? why do homebrews list here?

I hate to confess this, but I've alwats passed the batari Basic forum thinking it was mainly for coders. But then I wanted to check out that CityScape homebrew and could not for the life of me find it anywhere. It wasn't in Homebrew, not in 2600, not in Hacks, nowhere.

By a fluke I found it again and it's in batari Basic. Can I ask why? Should I be looking in here for cool homebrews and not in "Homebrews"?

It would be nice to have a sticky thread with all new homebrews like the one that exists in Vic-20 forum:

http://sleepingeleph...opic.php?t=5090

As you can see, members post in that thread using standard formatting:

Author:

Released:

I think that is a fantastic idea, how difficult would that be to setup?

Very easy.

It is only necessary that authors write a post regarding their games.

The only problem is that many games here are work in progress.

We could include them only when finished or without compiling fields like "released:".

The important thing is to have a link to the discussion/download thread.

Why not have two threads then, games that have been released and games that are works in progress and the author estimates the percentage compete, and when its done it moved to the other thread. I would love to have a thread that had all the homebrew games currently in development in one thread, be much easier to find games and see what people were coming up with!

The idea of having two threads is good.

And if the author of a finished game updates it in the future (for example my L.E.M. game is finished but in the future I would like to make a DPC+ version), he can ask Albert to have editing privileges for that post.

So, which fields should be included in each post?

I think all but for the WIP thread, instead of Released have EPC (Estimated Percentage Complete).

ComputerSpaceFan,

excellent topic - you have indeed found the hidden homebrew section ;)

I agree it is good idea to make the games from this section more accessible - there are a lot of high quality games.

Glad you liked CityScape!

Does anyone use batari Basic to program the Atari 8 computers?

batari Basic is used to make Atari 2600 programs. If Atari 2600 programs will run on Atari 8 computers, then yes. If not, then no.
