VicViper
Does anyone think a port of Wonderboy/Adventure Island would be possible on the 7800? Side scrolling platformers are sorely lacking on the system, and this one is pretty simple yet alot of fun. I'm not too terrible well acquainted with the the technical abilities of the 7800, but it does seem like side scrolling wasn't one of it's strong points. thoughts? GroovyBee
Looking at the SMS version I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. There aren't that many sprites on screen at once. It also seems that the level design would lend itself to some programmer tricks to increase the colours on the screen by good use of DLIs.
PAC-MAN-RED
Sprite conversion is quite possible I'd say: illya
GroovyBee
Sprite conversion is quite possible I'd say: Looks good and you are using 6 colours (5 in the body/head + common background) which makes him 160B. In which case his pupils can be black too .

Well... if I were to redo WonderBoy in 6 colours then the comparison would look something like this: illya

PAC-MAN-RED
Just a few Updates to the Wonderboy sprites, colour corrections, touch-ups, etc. These are the first 6 sprites for WonderBoy. The first 2 are him running on the spot, and the last 4 compose his walk/run cycle: WonderBoy Animated: illya

PAC-MAN-RED
UPDATE Just a minor sprite fix in Wonder Boys' walk/run cycle, and added some of the other game sprites to the mix: It's good practice. The only down side is that I'm having to rip the sprites from the arcade version myself. I've looked in the usual Sprite Databases and scoured the internet looking for Sprite Sheets that contain ALL of the Wonder Boy sprites, but the ones that exist only contain a handful of sprites...Bummer. Bakasama
Ah, I do know how tedious and boring sprite ripping can be. Still, it's much easier to sprite rip this game than say, Mortal Kombat.

I always wondered how people make these ... seemed like a pain to recreate from scratch! Didn't know there were such sites. Maybe someone could try a 1 level demo as a proof of concept with your sprites! :-)
Bakasama
Sprite ripping has became something of an artform since MUGEN was introduced. That led in turn to demands for sprite sheets for homemade fighting games. The great thing nowadays is that all you need to sprite rip graphics games, is the ROM, an emulator that has screen shot feature, and a basic paint program. M.A.M.E... which I'm sure stands for My Arse My Elbow Has a neat feature of displaying Tiles from an arcade ROM... BUT sometimes it can't display all of them (Wonder Boy is one). And I found a version of it that a guy modified to allow saving of Tiles, Palettes, etc. to BMP(s) over here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=41610 This will make arcade conversions, I think, a little easier. Wow, I've been looking for something like for a while. oh, I forgot to mention cheats are also important. In God mode, you don have to worry about dying when you get to an annoying boss to take screen shots.

FireStar
On a side note, there was also a port of Wonder Boy to the SG-1000, which was weaker than the SMS, though I'm not sure how it compares to the 7800 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31ib63c67wU Edited November 16, 2011 by FireStar
