Problem is my 1040stf mobo does not have any H's or L's marked on it.

Just U2 through U7

Can anyone tell me what chips as marked with the H's and L's go in what socket?

Here is a pic of my board

According to my schematics of a 1040 STFM:

U2: FE-H

U3: FD-H

U4: FC-H

U5: FE-L

U6: FD-L

U7: FC-L

Putting the roms in the wrong socket won't damage your computer, the ST probably will just crash when turning on. So you can also swap the roms around till it works :P

Thanks Robert.

Your post confirms that this picture is correct.

Assuming that c=0,d=1, and e=2.

So the chips are bad I guess. I ordered Rainbow TOS from MyAtari on ebay.

I'll post back here if I have any more luck with those chips... or not. :)

This is something I wanted to ask... Has anyone burnt custom TOS [ep]ROM chips with GDOS included? I guess it should be asked if anyone ever hacked TOS to have GDOS a part of it - as originally intended - without it having to be loaded into RAM... If memory serves me correctly, didn't Atari Corp finally release GDOS around the time the SLM804 debuted? I know I never had it for my ST, although I most definitely read about it in Antic/STart a good 2 years before it was released... And of course the Falcon came with SpeedoGDOS but that had to be loaded into RAM...
