GroovyBee
I to would like to something new. 2600 gets it all !!! That is not entirely true. There is homebrew development for the A8s, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar, TI99/4A, Colecovision and Intellivision going on in the various forums on AA. The 5200 version of Tempest is due out at some point and the system recently got a new multi-cart. I'm not aware of any other 5200 projects currently in development. However, I don't follow the 5200 scene much because they weren't released in the UK.
+Cafeman
We had a nice 5200 homebrewing streak during the 00's, and lots of A8 conversions. Unfortunately, some of the originally started games never got finished - Airworld, Utopia, and there was a puzzle game idea where you break a code or something. Other than Tempest, I don't know of anyone actively working on 5200 games, not that I've heard of. Myself, I don't have the free hours or the interest that I once had , so it is enough for me right now to get the AdvII XE port done. So it sounds like the next one will be 5200 Tempest someday. But never say never. This is the 5200's 30th anniversary. Maybe that will inspire someone to reveal something somewhere somehow someday. slampam
EMU support for Bryan's super-cart might help. Most projects seem to involve ramming RAM down the throat of the XL.

Dr Manhattan
I would like to see more A8 conversions. I was lucky enough to test a few conversions for a friend last holiday season. It was a rare privilege. I've had little exposure to the Atari 800, so the catalog is all new to me.

Well I have 4 5200's working & one for spares/repairs & we have a nice little car journey to ac2012 just around the corner. Wondering if I should bring one along to play with while you get coding? GroovyBee
Although I'm not doing anything for the 5200 directly I have agreed to do something for the Atari A8 this year (as part of a multi-system game).

Like you don't have enough to do!! I'll try to bring my 5200 then, its just frigging HUGE & with Kev taking over the boot I'm not sure there will be room! Jimmer
While the OP is about homebrews, I wonder if anyone has looked at doing a conversion of Tutankham? I don't have the knowledge to do the job but the game would be fantastic using both joysticks and the coupler!
slampam
@GroovyBee I've noticed you've politely in the past turned down interest in the 5200. But...look at it this way. * Pre-5200 games from Atari on the A8 were mostly subpar. Their programmers admitted as much and stated that only after the 5200 came into existence as a real gaming system did they feel the drive to make arcade perfect games. * Lucasfilm might not have existed in 8-bit gaming if not for their 5200 contract. * GCC was proud enough of their 5200 work to frame their boxes. Without this early relationship with Atari the 7800 Maria might never have existed. * Let's not forget the entire look of the 7800, 2600Jr, MX was molded from the 5200. * A few lucky individuals even play 7800 games through their supersystems...sort of. * The 5200 didn't make it outside Atari's home market. Yes, troublesome from a hobbyist point of view. No personal history to lock on to. Hopefully Gaztee can find room for his little atari and pique your curiosity. If he brings stock joysticks you will wonder what those engineers were smoking. But curt might fix that one day. I only mention this since you mentioned the cross-platform thing you might do. If you're already neck up in A8 code then glancing at the 5200 couldn't hurt. Edited March 2, 2012 by slampam
GroovyBee
I've noticed you've politely in the past turned down interest in the 5200. In the past I have looked at buying one when they come up on ebay.co.uk (not very often). However, they always go for amounts of money I'm not prepared to pay (its not a "must have" system for me). The other main reason for not doing anything for the system is basically a lack of time. I've a ton of 7800 projects to get done and my list of Intellivision stuff is growing too.
