Raiden or Rayden?

Does anyone know why in the Mortal Kombat series Raiden was spelled with an I in all the arcade games but then when each game was ported to the home consoles his name was always Rayden with a Y? That's perplexed me since 1993....

Really? Considering Fatal Fury came out before MK (at least I'm pretty sure it did) why didn't they spell Raiden with a Y in the arcade versions to help differentiate?

And even if Fatal Fury came out AFTER MK then Midway could claim SNK was copying THEIR character's name. , not the other way around... still makes no sense to me....

It's a dumbass white person screwing up an Asian name.

That's all.

Raiden is pronounced "Rye Den" not "Ray Den". If they wanted that they should have made the name Reiden.

It's like all those people that say "Ninja Gayden". its "Guy Den"

whoa, what's funny about that is either way, it sounds gay.

a den of gays, or a den of guys, hmmm.

Well, he WAS named for the Japanese thunder god Raiden/Raijin.

There was an arcade game came out some time before that called Raiden and it might just have been a licensing thing so long as Midway themselves weren't managing the home ports (as they did for 3+).

nah, Raiden (the shmup) had nothing to do with this stuff, lol..
