walter_J64bit
OK, I have two drivers that are made by RODiME they work just fine when then not hooked to one other I have drives ID's set right, one drive is set to ID 0 and the other set on ID 1, any ideas what wrong? walter_J64bit
SCSI termination set right? I don't have a SCSI termination.
tjlazer
Well then that's your problem.

walter_J64bit
Ok, one more thing how do I use a SCSI Terminator? Doesn't go at the end of SCSI chain? It been long time since I've used more than one SCSI drive. Edited July 14, 2012 by walter_J64bit
tjlazer
It has to be terminated on each end. And of course each drive needs its own SCSI ID. How do you have it setup now? http://support.gateway.com/s/tutorials/Tu_842239.shtml Edited July 14, 2012 by tjlazer
walter_J64bit
The small RODiME drive is setup for the boot drive (DI 0) the other drive is (DI 1) there are abut 3 feet from my STe the drives are setting on top of each other, for the looks of thing I need the external terminator If I'm reading howstuffworks this right. +poobah
Suppose its <ST>---<Link>---<Small Rodime>---<Large Rodime> Remove the termination resistors from the small Rodime, and make sure that the large Rodime has them. I don't know what model your drives are, but older drives typically had three resistor packs right by the SCSI connector. If they are both coming up OK individually, I'm inclined to believe both drives have the termination resistors in place. Next, you need to make sure that the drive ID's are set properly. If they are 0 and 1 (which you can verify either with the docs or seeing what they come up with when connected individually). 0 and 1 is fine, so long as they are different and not 7. Then make sure your hard disk software is configured to look for drives at both those IDs. Again, if they both show up individually, you are probably OK, but it is something to be aware of. Oh, The ID does not determine which drive is the boot drive, you set that in the software.
walter_J64bit
RoDIME Systems 45 Plus and RoDIME Systems 20 Plus I'm at work right so I'll take look for the termination resistors when I get home. walter_J64bit
Ok I didn't see any termination resistors by the SCSI connector on any of the drives.
+poobah
Ok I didn't see any termination resistors by the SCSI connector on any of the drives. Just so we're clear, attached is a pic of a 3.5" Rodime SCSI drive. The terminators are the three red guys right near the SCSI connecter (inside the green box). I removed the bottom one to show what it looks like without them. The LAST drive in the chain needs the terminators, all the rest should have them removed.
