+kheller2
perhaps, Mr. Kr0tki we all would like access to the roms again That’s what is so great about the os source package! Install cc65 and you can compile byte identical copies of every known OS that has ever been found.
+JAC!
Finally we found what had happend. FTP had performed a code page translation on the bytes >128 because it was not set to BINARY when Kevin restored his site some time back from a backup. The file on Kevin's site is fixed now and so is the check sum in the AtariRomChecker.
_The Doctor__
that may explain other corruptions, I wonder how many things have been boinked by the back up bug...
luckybuck
That is why the checksums are so important. At least for the OSs.
+kheller2
This is why we always transfer in FTP as binary. Text/ascii mode is only used if you WANT translations done.

Kr0tki
New release! The main change is I took Atari_Ace's advice from last year, and incorporated the Floating Point Package's source listing from "The Atari BASIC Source Book" into the archive. As usual, remove the .txt extension from the filename, then unpack with 7-zip, and see Changelog and README for details. a8-os-rom-2018-09-23.7z.txt
luckybuck
Great work Kr0tki! Oustanding as always. Please go ahead! :-) Something wrong with the archive? 7z doesn't do the job, 93 errors... mmmhh Edited September 23, 2018 by luckybuck

Kr0tki
Thanks to all for the kind words. Though more kudos should be directed at the individuals who shelled out actual money to purchase both the rare Arabic and prototype machines, and the materials for scanning, and then shared them for free. Without them this endeavour would not be possible, and I would have to direct my OCD to collecting label variations or some other rubbish. Anyway, the search for Operating System 255 continues, let's all keep fingers crossed and don't lose hope. Something wrong with the archive? 7z doesn't do the job, 93 errors... mmmhhWorks fine on my end, too. Contact me if you still can't unpack it after re-downloading, I'll send you a zip file instead. What version of 7zip are you using, anyway?
luckybuck
Thanks Kr0tki for sending the file in zip format. If you don't mind, I offer it here for the Mac users. Thanks again! Great work. Please go ahead. :-) a8-os-rom-2018-09-23.zip
+MrFish
...I offer it here for the Mac users. Roland, what is the exact problem for Mac users?
luckybuck
Latest version of 7zX.app for Mac is 1.7.1, which is very old indeed. But it works still. The new one for Windows, for example, can't be decoded by the 1.7.1 version of Mac. So, in the future, we have to face an alternative... I have a few 7Zip files on my site. I'll convert them and stick with ZIP, in order to keep the Mac people happy.
luckybuck
Thanks for your help, but I think Kr0tki is right. The Mac users have to adapt, not vice versa. There are alternatives dealing with 7z, even on modern macOS systems. Time is always the problem, as always. It is easier to my mind, to offer the Mac users this option. What do you think? Save time you...
+MrFish
I mainly use ZIP compression format for everything anyway. I just have a few stray 7Zip files on my site (which may even be old enough to pose no problem for the Mac version of 7Zip anyway). So, it's not really a big deal. luckybuck
ZIP is o. k., when using small files, like here, but bigger ones, let's say ~hundret of MBs, it is wiser to use 7z. Besides the fact, that the compression level is way better. :-) Edited September 30, 2018 by luckybuck
+MrFish
The majority of ZIP files on my site are less than 1MB. The rest are no more than 10MB. The OS Source archive is only 2.5MB zipped. I'm more concerned with compatibility and ease of use, in this case, than saving a relatively small amount of space on my web server(s). luckybuck
That is true, too. So, we keep the actual status.

tschak909
This project literally allowed me to quickly patch the BB0001r2 OS ROM to reverse the OPTION key behavior, for the Internet Archive's Emularity (so that lots more Atari 8-bit stuff will just work). Thank you, so much. -Thom
