+davidcalgary29
I just love Raiden on the Jaguar and was thinking about buying a cart from Telegames for the Lynx. Can anyone recommend this title...or should I be saving my pennies for one of their other "modern" releases?
bergbros
Raiden is a good game on the Lynx but it is very hard. Graphically it kicks with nice varied backgrounds and cleanly rendered enemies. It only has five levels and the weapons are not as varied as in the arcade- just bullets and lasers, missles and homing missiles. The lesser enemies kamikaze you like crazy. There is not enough room on the screen to dodge them and the steady stream of bullets that constantly pepper you. I like playing it but you have to ask yourself if it is worth the $40.00 for a good but not exceptional shooter. If you are a Raiden fan, it won't disappoint. If you want a less costly shootem up with a lesser difficulty curve, maybe Gates of Zendocon? Or if you like your shoot em ups tough, maybe Zarlor Mercenary especially if you have friend to play with.
holygrailvideogames.com
Raiden is a good game, but it is hard. Sign up for the mailing list specials with eBay. They offer specials several times a year. They often offer $20 off and when they do you should be able to get Raiden for about $26-$27 shipped. TheBizDude
Personally, I don't think the LYNX was meant to be played vertically. Titles held in high regard by others don't get my equal praise for that simple reason. Raiden is no exception - it is vertical. I experince freeze-up when the game ends and it's supposed to allow you to continue. About 50% of the time it will go to the red-screen of death. It's only sold through Telegames. Other than those 3 quams, Raiden is a recommended title for the Lynx. L8A! Gregg
Twoface2
Was RAIDEN finished by Telegames? There is a ROM of it floating around on the net that says "CES Version Release 3" It seems unfinished. Is it the same with Telegame's Version? I want to buy it, but I am quite confused. I don't want to spend $40 for an unfinished game. Thanx!
chris_lynx1989
the version that telegames sells is different than the ces version you are mentioning.that version has a comlynx bug in it.the telegames/icd version does not have this bug in it.has anyone really comlynxed on this game?? i've never heard much on this front.two players comlynxed might be real fun.i was a big fan of twin cobra in the arcade.this is much like that.the only drawback is the verical play like klax, gauntlet 3 and nfl fooball-which alternated between horizontal and vertical play.i'm not a big fan of these because the game image washes out unless you get hold angle and the brightness right. yes,it is rather hard and frustrating to try and play. is comlynx better? i'd like to hear if it is.i don't have a second cart.the $44.95 asking price at release in july 1997 was a tun off really.now it is $39.95.a little better.the price was also a turn off then for fat bobby.which is a pretty good game really.it was good till my cart up and died 2 or 3 yrs ago for no reason.any others ever have this happen to them with either cart??the icd carts do not seem too hardy.i did not handle mine rough,either.weird. -chris
Mad Scientist
Comlynx mode works fine- it's pretty fun, actually. I've played it linked at JagFest and Midwest Classic gatherings (only having one copy of my own). The overall difficulty of Lynx Raiden is high, as several people have said, but I still think that it is a very good conversion. Regarding glitches: my copy has not given me any problems. -Eric
chris_lynx1989
all i can get is the title screen to come up.it does not change with my other lynx units, either.so it cannot be a dirty cart or cart port on all of them.a real weird thing.raiden still works fine too.hmmmm.-chris
Twoface2
the version that telegames sells is different than the ces version you arementioning.that version has a comlynx bug in it.the telegames/icd version does not have this bug in it. What makes me think that the CES version is incomplete, is the fact that in the 1st level there are tank shelters that rise from the ground with no tanks driving out of them. In the arcade version those shelters lift and tanks drove out. (What else sense could a tank shelter make in a shooter?) How about the Telegames version? Do tanks come out of their shelters? glitch
Of course it's already too hard w/o the tanks so maybe they were removed to tone the game down a bit.
chris_lynx1989
as i remember, the shelters do lift up in the telegames version.the comlynx bug was the only thing i've ever heard of.there are tanks in my version. bruce at b&c told me about the comlynx bug his version had back in 1996 before he quit selling it because on the pending telegames edition.their version he told me would not have the bug.icd did some work on the thing ,i guess.it is a complete game i suppose.i'm not real big on the vertical lynx titles myself. Razelim
Hmmh, not with ther Roms, and Comlynx bugs But I really miss the Music in the game. The Jag version actually had some classy tune
Twoface2
as i remember, the shelters do lift up in the telegames version. Sorry chris, but you misunderstood me. The CES version HAS lifting shelters, BUT there are no tanks coming out of them, like in the arcade. This doesn't make any sense, since you can't destroy the shelters. The CES version also has tanks, but they are just standing on the ground. Maybe you could check your Telegames version. I'm really curious about whether the Telegames is further developed than the CES release. Thanx
chris_lynx1989
i'm thinking you can destroy the shelters in the telegames version.i was playing this before i got centipede.i'll check again tonight.-chris
chris_lynx1989
the tanks move about and shoot at you in my version.
chris_lynx1989
yes,the bunkers raise up and a big tank comes out shooting.i did not try to destroy the bunker though.-chris
