Xbox 360 Slim optical/dvd drive problem

My friend's son's Xbox's disc tray seemed to come off track and it stopped opening and closing. It's the black, smaller, slim model. He brought it over for me to repair. I watched a video and learned how to take it apart. So I took the Xbox apart, and I tried to get the optical drive open after removing the 2 screws but it wouldn't open. I guess I should've tried to get the front of it off. But I seemed to be able to get the tray back on track to where it was moving in and out when you stick a pin in that side hole.

 

So I just put the Xbox back together, and the disc tray still doesn't open. So I guess I need to get a replacement optical drive for it? Or is there a simple fix for once you get the drive itself opened up? Also, is there a good (and cheap) source for a replacement drive? They don't have any money. so I am repairing it for free. He's missing his Xbox. Thanks.
