Clint Thompson
Does anyone here have these joypads and voice their opinion on how nice they are or how well they work? I've seen these suckers for many years and have always been interested in picking up a pair or so (or maybe doing a trade for them with someone but I'm starting to become more motivated to pick them up now that I'm starting to obtain some of the older Atari systems I once used to own. Thanks for any feedback... Clint Thompson
Hydian
You mean the ones shipped with the 7800? I have a set and they are pretty decent. Much better than the 7800 sticks in any case. I'm not a huge fan of pads in general though. I don't do well with them (the analog sticks on modern pads are a godsend for me.) It's worth picking them up if you see a good price IMHO. Clint Thompson
I guess they shipped with the 7800? I don't care for the prosticks... wtf I mean really? I would imagine the pads have to be better (if you don't have huge hands) which I guess I would be mid-ranged but not so damn huge I can't hold it haha... I think it was 1996 when I first seen one of those controllers and was like (whoa! I never knew Atari made those!) and I was always thinking it would have made a lot more sense if they would have shipped 7800's with like a classic joystick w/maybe 2 buttons (not those prosticks) and then a set of the joypads... Wrathchild
I've both a NES and a SNES and I prefer the controllers on the latter. Making an adapter for the NES one (or just cutting the cable and putting on a nine-pin would be interesting though, can the A8 support all the buttons? Joypad = 4 pins for Up/Down/Left/Right Button A = Exisitng 'Fire' Start/Select - could use POT values I guess as Hi/Lo That's 7 pins, plus 1 for Power = 8 Is the other pin available in the memory map? Thinking about it though... who needs Start/Select? They're on the keyboard already (or the console for an XEGS)! Therefore you can do this... configure 'Fire' as a output and multiplex a 4-button controller (i.e Buttons A,B,C and D) in two pairs. Their values can then be obtained through the POT values... where's my soldering iron?! Regards, Mark
ccc---
I had a few hundreds of those Atari Joypads but sold most of them to Video 61. Have only a few ones left here. I don't like them too much for playing, I prefer "real" Joysticks
