19rsn007
hey people Lately I've not had any luck with atari computers. I've just picked up a power supply for my recently given AtariST 520. It came with a composite cable, but somehow all it gives my is a jumpy image (like it's out of sync) So tonight I took it to a friend of mine who had an AtariST monitor which is working fine on his 1040ST. We hooked it up to get it going, but the picture is way out of sync! Same goes when I try to hook it up via RF......no good signal. What could be going on with this ST?? I'd love to get it working, cause I never had an ST and I want to see what an ST can do.
Rybags
Pal machine running in NTSC country or the other way around will often give a rolling picture. You could try to find a game menu disk with system selector - some pirated menu systems and games let you switch Pal/NSTC. It won't really help the problem but could identify if your machine is starting in the wrong mode. The Pal/NTSC mode on startup is controlled by what Rom is installed, e.g. English/German will start in Pal, US Rom will start in NTSC. 19rsn007
ok, but should it be like that when it was connected to an official atari st monitor (the high res monochrome one)
Rybags
Hires should be the same no matter where - it's ~ 70 Hz refresh. Sounds like the computer itself has some sort of fault. The old "2 inch drop" might fix it, but it has it's risk factor, ie might make it worse. 2 inch drop: Hold the computer level, 2 inches above the desk, then drop it. 19rsn007
the 2 inch drop didn't make ik any better. Not worse either. Think I'm just gonna take out the TOS chips and ask my friend (that had stacks of ST's for parts) if I can pick one at his place and test it with my TOS chips to see if it works
tjlazer
Press all socketed chips in firmly and see if that helps.
