Where does this component go?

In one of those classic DIY moments, I took apart my STe and then reassembled it, only to find that I had a part left over when I'd put it all back together. Anyone got any idea where it is supposed to go? (Photo of the rogue part attached). Could its absence account for the machine being temperamental and refusing to start up?

Aha - that makes sense, given the way the machine is behaving without it (green light comes on, but the disk drive light doesn't). Right, out with the scredrivers again...

I would guess it is a metal piece to ground the drive with the mother board.

I don't think it woulld make the drive not work if it wasn't there though...

Post back with how you make out.

Works fine without it installed. Just a bit of a pain to install it.I have a couple of ste's that don't have them fitted :)

Turns out after some fiddling around that you're quite correct - there is a place for it between the disk drive and case, but it does seem to act merely as a grounding device. In fact, after some more fiddling around, I discovered that the erratic startup behaviour was actually due to the monitor-to-SCART lead being inserted into the machine upside down! Problem solved, and the ST will now get a mention the next time I give an ergonomics lecture.
