Shephda
My 7800 has one of those buggy on switches that you have work likes it's your girlfriend to get it to turn on. :-) Well I was looking through a pile on a desk trying to find a lost monitor for my Xbox, lo and behold I find it sitting on a box that holds a 2600 and about 30 games. Inside the box is a 7800 console that I did not know I owned. Hooked it up and BAM the on switch works like a champ and the system is near flawless. Guess I need to work on my book keeping skills just a tad.
boxpressed
Good topic. I haven't had that particular experience, but I have forgotten to open some parcels until a week or so after they've arrived. Here's my sign that you're collecting too much: you can tell, within seconds and with 90% certainty, whether there is a rare game mixed into a lot of games from eBay's thumbnail photo. Loose or boxed.
+Gemintronic
Same here. Last week I astonished myself with the revelation I've got more than one 7800. I broke the select button on my original trying to repair it. I guess somewhere along the line I purchased another one. *shrugs*
sqoon
It's always good to have backup systems. I picked up a spare 7800 in box at a pawn shop a few months back, "just in case".
Mirage
Yeah, I occasionally run across something in the basement I didn't know I had. Usually it's a 2600 console. As I get more organized, it happens less often. Sometimes I'm like "I thought I sold that years ago!"
snakeboy
Wow, that is pretty bad...Occasionally I'll come across a game I had completely forgotten I owned but never an entire console.

Taskmaster99
My story is finding games in the wild and then coming home to find that I already had it. Gotta start carrying around a list. Too many systems and too many games to remember every single one.
CPUWIZ
It's bad when you know you have 30+ 2600 systems (not counting the ones in the collection), but no clue where they are.
mimo
I have the reverse problem usually, I sell stuff and still think I have it. Discovered 2 pal 7800s with a/v mods that I forgot I had done

+Gemintronic
You start justifying the $200 price tag of Towers II based on "market demand" and excellent box condition - completely ignoring the game-play (which, between work and family, will be none)
+nanochess
When you say, well I will get only the Parker Brothers releases for Colecovision, then you start thinking why not to have the others, then you start thinking in getting the overlays, then you say why not to get manuals?, then you believe you should have boxes, then you see a bump on a label and start thinking in getter a better cartridge then you see a variation label and you think seriously your girlfriend needs a week alone, and when you less expect it, you're saying "my precious, nobody will separate us" I'm kidding Edited March 4, 2013 by nanochess

Dripfree
You know you collect to much when you can identify a Jaleco NES game just by looking at the spine of the label. You know you collect too much if you know what I was talking about in my previous statement.

+slx
Got outbid on a cart on EBay just to find the same game in a box a day later. Sometimes have to search my mail account for clues whether I bought a specific game on EBay because I can't remember.

Atarifever
There's a local shop that carries a ton of classic gaming stuff, but it's mostly NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, etc. They also give really fair prices if you sell (the guy who owns it does the store as a hobby, so he's fair and only looks to break even). Anyway, you know you collect too much when you go into a store and think "oh man, I really want that!" and then realize you're the one who sold it to them in the first place. I've done that in that place a million time, as I am their main provider of oddities.
