STuck Posted March 3, 2013 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Hi all, I'm trying to upgrade the TOS on my 520STFM from 1.02 to Rainbow TOS (1.06). The chip vendor is understandably a little vague on how to do it, is there HOWTOs available on how to do it? It appears there are 6 chip (28 pin) versions of TOS 1.06, so should it be a case of a straight swap, or do I have to mod it for 2 chip? GadgetUK Posted March 4, 2013 Share Posted March 4, 2013 6 chip replacement was the cleanest for me. I didn't want chips overhanging the sockets and the wires associated so I avoided to 2 EPROM mod and went for the 6 chip. I created the 6 TOS images using Hatari on the PC - for 1.04 rainbow (you cant use anything greater on STFM to my knowledge). I then programmed 6 EPROMs with the images, plugged them into the 6 sockets, making sure each one goes into the correct space, and finally there are some solder points to swap on the PCB. They are next to the TOS sockets - marked 1M or 256 I think. It will be set to 1M chips if you've got 2 in there, for 6 it needs swapping to the 256 pad.
