Wrathchild
In what way, some games (typically those 16k and less) will work by a direct reassembly with the chip registers altered, but others can be done by relocating whole swathes of code once disassembled? Even when this requires moving read-only and writable data segments it still is ok to port an A8 title than re-implement.
kensu
Does the A8 version require more than 16K RAM? In that case it'd have to be rewritten with an eye towards lesser memory consumption. Edited April 28, 2013 by kensu
Wrathchild
16K titles refered to the A8 code and read-only data. E.g. a cart is held in upper memory giving all lower memory (16k on stock 400 or 600xl) so these make easy porting, consider this a re-map. Other games tend to need a re-location which isn't the same as a re-write in my mind, maybe just semantics? There is a level of work upfront to determine in these cases whether a game requires more than 16K RAM, e.g. I looked at Zybex before but that needs more RAM whereas Rampage could be shuffled around to squeeze onto the 5200. Greg2600
Wrathchild has done some fantastic work on 5200 conversions, hopefully he can return to the scene soon.
thegamezmaster
Just wanted to say I appreciate everyone's work on conversions. And would love to see Mr. Do! Edited May 8, 2013 by thegamezmaster
