Millipede Madness

Next up it's Millipede, possibly the most awesome game ever. As well as Joystick Millipede plays nicely with the Trak-Ball so if you have one dig it out, if not go and find one as it makes the game even more fun

 

Rules

>Play the 1984 version with the animations on the title screen (the 1983 ver is easier!)

>Play on the default starting score 30,000 (L/R to select)

Scoring & Bonuses

Standard HSC 12pts win...

HSC Record Bonus: 1pt for beating darthkur's (!) 358,092 from back in season 2 round 24, I know I will be aiming for that one

Trak-Ball Bonus: - mini table of scores for 1pt per player bonus

As usual emulator users - no save states etc play as if you are on a real atari

Millipedes BASIC YES!!! BAS Great I've found a basic game from the Aussies looking forward to checking this one out and perhaps making a few tweaks

p.s. We've played Centipede(s) and Myriapede(Mushroom) before and I'm saving Bug Attack for a future round as it is just too darn good, but if there are any others play and post for more bonus point goodness

Ditto! Holy crap, there's a lot going on in this one. My thumb hurts.

I'll dig out my trak-ball later and see if I can do any worse better.

 

Also tried a few of the others...

3586 on Insects. Not bad, but jerky and your cannon thing moves way too slow.

 

4248 at Megalegs. I like this one very much. Smooth and quick.

Ok I played through all the bonus games and Megalegs is the best one IMO. Catapede is probably the next best, I don't want to be too critical of the others as I wouldn't be capable of making something half as good

How about this for some Millipede Madness: shall we go for the combined total score for all the bonus games? - might cap a few if they are too easy or have some multipliers (or drop any that really stink) ? Please post a summary of all your scores as you go to help me out

 

Had my "warm up" go on Millipede, seems for years the file versions were somewhat lacking - Fandal's new one has the slightly less crazy swarms (you can see them now) but seems to have gangs of spiders (might be I've forgotten as too much Centipede!)... anyway 368,790 with joystick

Will have a go with Trak-Ball at the weekend, think it only works in joystick mode but it's still great fun to play

[Can one of the NTSC players confirm this version also runs ok and does it seem the same re gameplay. Anyone got the original cart?]

 

Also had a bash at a few bonus games:

Viper 35,217 - to get it started press Option/F4 go for the blank screen then press Start/F2. Seems to be too many lives but does get harder eventually - seem to be able to shoot the "escaped from jawbreaker" head when it is purple perhaps possibly Option also pauses and Start continues...

Millipedes (BASIC) 23,500 - ok it's a darn worm game but it snuck in and is quite fun to play - don't worry it does get harder. And just what is this WELP series we deserve to know so lets have suggestions for W.E.L.P folks! wonder if there was a "first in the series" too ?

I've spent way too many hours playing this game in the past both on my 8-bit and MAME!!! It's one of those, "OK, just one more game" games...

Only trouble with combining the scores is that it will be barely worth playing the very low scoring games.

 

How about scoring on a top 10 ranking for each game? 1 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd... up to 10 points for 10th and above for each game. And 10 points for not playing a game. Lowest scoring person (rank wise) wins? Unfortunately that would involve maintaining a table for each game though, perhaps that's a bit too complicated!

ok folks I've played all the games "Millipede Madness" will be as follows:

Millipedes will be dropped as I'm not sure anyone could play it without having an seizure so that leaves the other 9 games which are all ok (Insects is better played on a faster speed 3 select but we'll leave that optional):

 

for each game

7 points for 1st place

6 points for 2nd place

5 points for 3rd place

4 points for 4th/5th places

3 points for 6th/7th places

2 points for 8th-10th places

1 points for 11th+ places

3 point bonus for highest total score, 2pts 2nd, 3pts 3rd

these will be combined totalled sieved and shredded into a main table where they will stand for regular HSC points.

 

This will be a ball-ache to score so please each keep a summary of your scores on each post

And another weird thing is i can exit the left side of the screen and appear on the right side
