Eastern Front

UPDATE - Problem seems to be solved, current game date is October 5, 1941, on intermediate skill. Solution seems to be playing on higher skill level.

Hello!

Brand new to the site, please forgive my mistakes at this tender age.

For my first post, I have a question about a game.

Eastern Front 1941, on an Atari 800 with 48k RAM. Running on real hardware, no emulation.

I'm currently playing and am becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact that I cannot get passed turn 14. I have read through the manual several times and researched on the internet for the passed 3 days. I do understand the mechanics of moving, attacking, supply, etc enough that I can push the russians around pretty well, but no matter what I do I invariably get a Game Over on September 28th game time, or turn 14. I'm testing out the different difficulty levels as I am typing this post, on intermediate right now, but I expect the same result.

All sources say the game runs for 41 turns, and ends on March 29, 1942. What is wrong? Is my cartidge damaged? Is there something about the game that the manual isn't telling me? Is my computer broken?

Thanks for any helpful input!

I started a thread here which has the source code and details on the 'scenario editor'

If anyone has the scenario editor or more extras, a post here would be much appreciated,

Rich

Hi - i thought id update here with the Latest Eastern Front archive -

Chris Crawford has kindly put a zip package for Eastern Front and related stuff on his site here> http://www.erasmatazz.com/library/source-code.html

It includes the elusive editor and scenarios up until now have been unavailable on the web. In addition to the other goodies, a proto of Western Front is here which includes Mainland Europe and British Isles which is a refreshing contrast to the Russian landscape we are used to!

As well as the Atr and runnable files there are some source code stuff and dos accessible things which have been cleaned up (probably by Bob?).

I think for the time since these were generated, we owe Chris a deserved thank you for making these available after this time. This in addition to agreeably being interviewed by the Antic team and answering some questions on this site just recently over a lengthy period.

For myself this titles surfacing - its a great thrill that the elusive titles have been made available and more besides, i hope these can be preserved on the atari archive sites run by Atarifrog, Archives.org and atarionline.pl

Also there is a TI-99 version available at this site - http://www.adamantyr.com/misc/easternfront.htm which i think is a great compliment to the Game.

Which i think is a good compliment to the game and influence in general!
