newgen2005
Sorry if this a silly question but I am wondering what are the best and safest materials to clean consoles and accessories. I was going to use furniture polish and cotton buds, is furniture polish ok to use on these units? In my case I want to shine up the Atari 2600 Woody I brought today! ApolloBoy
Take everything completely apart and scrub all the plastic parts in the sink with warm water and soap, just like you would with dishes.
Osgeld
I wouldnt, but if I were to I would use something like armor all or black magic meant for car plastics
+Stephen Moss
Furniture polish is meant to polish it is not really a cleaning agent so I would not use it, also it may have an adverse effect on plastic parts depending on what is in it. As already suggested warm soapy water should work, if you can get it you could also try Isopropanol, it cuts through most dirt and grease, evaporates off & so leaves no residue behind and should not have an adverse effect on plastics. The down side is you will need to use it in a well ventilated space and ideally you should wear gloves because if you get it on your skin it will degrease it making it very dry and could cause irritation.
