"Donkey Kong" for 800xl with more levels /75 and 100 meters :)

Sorry for my newbie question

 

But, is this great game only with two levels ? /for ATARI 8-bit/

or have some versions with level 3 or 4 or ... ?

There are two different style carts of the same game. The first is black or brown colored cart, the second is a re-release that is grey cart with blue label ( XE ) which is a bit harder to find. Both contain the same program. It is considered to be THE best home version as it contains ALL 4 SCREENS from the arcade.

I'm not sure I did understand your question right... but as far as I remember, the levels are all there, but it works like this:

 

First you play 1 donkey kong (25m?)

 

Then you play 2 donkey kongs (50 m?)

 

Then again you fall back to 1 donkey kong (25m?)

Then you get 2 donkey kongs (50m?)

Then you get 3 donkey kongs (75m?)

 

And then again you fall back to 1 donkey kong (25m)

 

Then you get 2 donkey kongs (50m?)

Then you get 3 donkey kongs (75m?)

And then you get 4 donkey kongs (100m?)

 

But it has been really a long time ago since I played this. I remember also that it was pretty hard to get so far, and it took me also some time before I finally find out how to get a higher stack of donkey kongs.

The US version of DK in the arcades was different to most other countries, ie screen order.

 

Home versions usually follow the US sequence.

There is only 1 version...just the casing may be different as described above. IIRC the screen # order from level 1 to level 5 goes 12-123-1234-12134-121314. Subsequent levels follow level 5's sequence. You can begin the game at any of the first 5 levels.

Wasn't there a Hack of Donkey Kong called Donkey Kong Arcade, i belive the sound effects is different and there was some other differences to, Is this hack avaible somewhere ?

Here are the differences I'm aware of.

1) new sound effects and tunes

2) not so easy to bump your head on barrel rolling above you on ramp screen

3) saves high score in flash on the cartridge

4) The "secret" intro animation runs at the start of the game.

 

I don't recall if a demo was released. It was anounced in this forum, so try a search. The cart might be available from Video61.

I think you mean't 14-134-1234-12134-121314 where 1=ramps, 2=cement, 3=elevators, 4=rivets

Either way it's a weird level progression. Isn't the standard 1-4-1-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-☠ on the US arcade version?
