Justin Payne
I'm in the process of building up my software collection, adding what I can to all of my floppies, which is a very slow process. Then I remembered about the Falcon's 50 pins SCSI-II and thought how much easier it would be just to put everything on a CD-ROM. I found a Philips PCA80SC and thought I might drop it into a external enclosure I have but wondered if there was something special I needed to keep in mine when hooking it up? I know some of you have CD-ROM drives so I figured I'd ask.
+DarkLord
HDDriver supports CD-ROMs - but it is commercial and a little bit pricey (but worth every penny IMHO): http://hddriver.seimet.de/en/ Also, there is Anodyne Software's dedicated CD-ROM stuff - its very high quality as well: http://www.anodynesoftware.com/ There might be some freeware/software that will do the job as well. I'm not intimately familiar with it though, so I'll let someone else expound on that. HTHs.
Justin Payne
Yea, I just couldn't pull the trigger on HDDriver so I just partitioned my hard drive with Celile, which worked like a charm. I just had to do a little French to English translation. It's good to know that it's possible to do so I'll keep my eyes open for a SCSI-II CD-ROM or DVD. I just don't think I have enough floppies to store all of the software on. Thanks for the info.
Zogging Hell
Spin and Metados are the freeware alternative to Extendos. AFAIK HD Driver just recognises the drive, but to access the files you need Extendos or Spin/ Metados (or install Mint which is sloooww on a base falcon). TBH it is worth forking out on Extendos, I found the Spin/ Metados combo unreliable at best.
