Atari World & Atari Computing Mags now online

Recommended Posts

All issues of AW and AC are going live over the next week or so. Some pages need rescanning, but rather than waiting more months while pages are checked & rescanned, I have compiled all the issues "as is" for the time being.

For the moment I am only allowing AC issues to be downloaded, simply due to if lots of people download the whole lot in one go, its going to slow the server down (which isn't mine). Once I get a idea on traffic/hits I will allow downloaded of more mags as the days go on.

Scans are classed as "bugerware" where contributions for my burger fund would be appreciated! Those mags took several months to scan and still much work left to do.

I also plan to start scanning STF but this will take probably the best part of a year to complete. Of course it depends on how long my burger fund keeps up meanwhile.

Enjoy!

Yeah, I saw that but assumed if a thumbnail was there, it was good to go. Will try later and thanks for doing these. Looking forward to Atari World as I was a contributor so it would be interesting to see those again. Especially issue 3 that nearly sank us before we'd got going. I had an uncensored contributor copy but all the ones that made the shops had stickers covering some pics.

I 'donated' my copy along with Jaguar EPROM carts and other unusual bits to some guy in ireland that was supposed to be affiliated to the Curt's Atari Museum. He did run a big Atari web site but it's gone now. Anyway, it wasn't anything particularly bad but probably beyond the pale for a computer mag and WH Smith refused to touch it so all copies got recalled and stickers put on the offending pictures.

I heard on AF that there was "uncut" copies about, though nobody has come forward with the missing pages yet :(

AW will be live when the server load goes down a bit, it has served over 150GB over the past 2 days already.

Just a thought, why not make them available as torrents? That would take the load off your server pretty quickly.

Problem with torrents is

1) I cant have my PC online 24/7,

2) I can only get 100K upload rate which is way to slow for 100's of GB's uploading

3) I need my internet not to be swamped as I use it a lot.

4) In the past, I have shared torrents, and as soon as people get the stuff, they never share, so my internet gets maxed out 100% of the time and nobody helps to share. Everyone wants, but no "give", oh well.

Its not my server anyway, I just kinda use it like any other hosting company... Just trying to keep a low profile and not flag up too many alarms with the host.. I have unlimited space and bandwidth, but I don't wanna push it lol
