8Bitjunkie
Hello Atari Experts! Which sound routine you would use for your Atari 8bit homebrew game? I am searching for a simple-to-use soundplayer which is free of charge. It would be perfect, if the player is like one of the great mod-player of the amiga. Maybe one can compose with a windows tool and save the playerdata for the Atari 8bit? Has anyone a suggestion? I checked a few player (Raster music tracker, for example) but i did not find a manual which i could understand (german or english)... Thanks for your suggestions! ilmenit
IMHO Raster Music Tracker is the best option. If you have any questions then ask, we will help :-)
snicklin
RMT is probably the widest used tracker in Atari 8 bit homebrew gaming. It can be a bit tricky with laying out your memory as it uses a fair amount and must be correctly located. It is worth the effort though.
TMR
Yeah, i'll put another vote in for Raster Music Tracker (i don't write music but have integrated tunes from a number of musicians into my demos and games that were done with it).
Rybags
RMT allows you to specify which memory gets used - it also uses 16 or so z-page bytes but that's only for the duration of the once per frame call so you can do save/restore so to otherwise use it if necessary. If you're dealing with effects only, then it's probably worth considering just rolling your own playback routines.
Marius
I am only familiar with CMC, which is great… but it's rather obvious that newer music tools are much more powerful, although the quality of the song also depends on the composer of course. I have heard some CMC songs which were rather impressive.
8Bitjunkie
Thank you all for your comments! I will give RMT a try :-) Do you have a link to the newest/best version and maybe a link to an english manual?
