Recommended Posts

so i modded my atari with a 3.5mm jack, then messed up the original jack. I no longer have the original power supply so..

I need to know which side of the jack is positive and which negative.

Thanks for your help.

There should be a large 2200uF smoothing capacitor in the 7800.

Usually there is a light coloured strip indicating the negative end of the capacitor. On axial capacitors (a lead coming for each end) this should point to the metallic end (positive having black plastic end), on Radial capacitors (both leads coming from the same end) the stripe will probably be sporting a "-" and will always be on the side nearest to the negative leg.

In either case the negative legs will be connected to ground track on the PCB which is usually thicker than the rest, when you find this track follow it back to the connection with the socket to find its negative (0V) end.
