Controller revisions?

I bought a trashed Intellivision from ebay to replace one of the controllers on mine, when I opened up the one that I bought the plastic matrix looked a good bit different than mine, at the top it had REV 3 whereas mine was REV 1.

 

I thought it was fairly interesting, anyone else ever notice this? Perhaps it has greater reliability? See for yourself, the one on the left is the one I bought, the right is the one I already had (edit, pics were massive, made them a more manageable size:

I think I noticed that some time back. My number one guess would be cost reduction. It appears that Revision 3 uses far less conductive coating than Revision 1.

I also noticed the plastic wire connectors to the mobo are cheaper, thinner plastic, and the cord seems a little shorter...I must have gotten a later intellivision
