Goochman
So - I knew about XBox 360 Red Ring of death but never heard about PS3's having heat related issues until mine died yesterday. Anyone know if these kits provide a decent shot at fixing the issue? https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Game-Console/PlayStation-3-Yellow-Light-of-Death-YLOD-Fix-Kit/IF213-028-
boog
If you have an original 'fat' PS3, then any YLoD-type fix is just a temporary solution. Even if you revive the console, it might last an hour or it might last a year... but it's going to fail again. Better off replacing the console with a 'slim' or 'super slim'. The only reason to bother reviving a 'fat' PS3 is if you want to recover your game saves or other data for transfer to a replacement console. Goochman
Ok thanks for the input - Ive found similar articles online. Ive got a 'fat' but not backwards compatible - the 40gb unit. I bought a 3D 4K DVD plater to replace as thats what the PS3 did most of the time anyway

My PS3 lasted about 40 min which was long enough to get my stuff off.
