problem with my 5200 controller need help!

Hello, I recently got a atari 5200 everything seems great except for one of the controllers. When I turn on a game the curser or player flys to the right of the screen and i can only move up and down and cannot move left to get off the right side of the screen, it seem the right movement is locked up or something. I tried opening the controller and turning the dials but it makes no difference does anyone know whats wrong with the controller or how to fix it.? I really want to play robotron 2084 and need the second controller.

Try swapping the right and left controllers and see if the problem is in the controller or in the console.

its definitely the controller my other controller works perfectly in both controller slots I have the 2 port model

Sounds like the analog pot is bad. Maybe the wiring for it is bad. A good way to check is to swap the pot locations. Use the one for up / down where the one for left / right goes. If it still doesn't go left /right it is the wire harness.

Also make sure you have the top pot at 9 o clock and bottom pot at 6 o clock
