That's great, but for me doing most of those things was all part my measly allowance

Couldn't complain though, many of my friends had less and I was thrilled to play what I had.

You got an allowance for doing chores around the house?

I was expected to help out around, just because. No allowance, no nothin'.

Growing up in a small city (Bartlesville) in Oklahoma that didn't get a mall until 1984, the Atari section at my local Wal-Mart (we had one of the first 50 stores in the country), K-Mart, and TG&Y looked like this.

Or even before then when stores like Babbages were mostly computer software. I was born in 79, but I remember stores like Egghead Software.
