From what I can see it has been opened , is it still worth it for a little over $300 US with shipping to Canada?

Great pickups Jin! Big fan of Ecco and Jurassic Park :3

It's been a couple weeks since I did a video game pickups post, so I think it's about time for one! Eh, Poppy. "Woof."

Picked up a 5200 and 25 games over the weekend. Came with 2 busted joysticks and a game cartridge organizer. Just need a Lynx and

a Jag now. :D

Killer pickup Jin. :3 I love me some Splatterhouse 2.

It is an utterly awesome game, though insanely hard until you learn exactly what to do to defeat each of the bosses. The first time I played it via emulation around Halloween last year I got really frustrated with it and didn't like it very much at all, but after learning some boss strategies and coming back to it last month I was eventually able to beat it with a lot of practice.

When I got my real physical copy today I sat down and played it right away, and beat it on just two continues now that I knew what I was doing. It was a ton of fun and this is definitely one of those games that I know I'll play through at least once a year every year, so it was totally worth the high price tag to have. :)

Splatterhouse 2 is fantastic, nice pickup (though I slightly prefer the first games personally)!

---

I didn't "buy" this today, but it arrived today, so I'm gonna break the rules a bit.

I got a Game Gear that's been overhauled, completely recapped with the fluorescent light bar replaced by LEDs for improved battery life. I stuck with the original screen, as I'm generally fine with blurry portable screens, and don't like how much the McWill mod changes the look of the games in this particular case.

Having said that, I'd place the Game Gear screen right in the bottom of the three major late 80s portables (Game Boy, Game Gear, Atari Lynx).

In order, from worst to best:

The Game Gear suffers from composite quality video and a library full of games that are simply not suited for the screen—namely, platformers. You can get used to it, but the screen is better suited for puzzle games and RPGs. Playing Sonic the Hedgehog on this is ridiculous imo. The viewing angle is a bit touchy; like the Lynx, you get much nicer contrast looking at it at an angle from below, rather than straight on.

The Game Boy also suffers from low screen refresh/response, but is saved by the fact that it's B&W and that the screen itself is very sharp compared to the GG, so it's a bit easier to see stuff that's moving. (This is MUCH improved with the Game Boy Pocket/Light, but that's six years even after the Lynx II, so it's unfair to compare imo).

The Lynx II has a surprisingly good screen, thanks to how sharp and colorful it is, and also because games tend to be slower paced. Digital Foundry made fun of Toki's sub-20 fps frame rate, but I'd take Toki (which looks and plays GREAT on the actual hardware) over Sonic on Game Gear any day of the week.

That's a little disappointing. I thought that X-Men game was a beat em up but it's a platformer... I'm returning it.

That's actually one of the games that I used to own as a kid and is on my "to buy back" list for this year. If you wanna PM me with some pictures of the front and top label to check the condition I'll take it off your hands if the label is in good shape. As you can probably guess from my pickups pictures I am pretty picky about condition, but there's no white wear marks on the label edges I'd be happy to give it a good home and play it. :)

Yes I think so, it is insured for $300 US so if it turns out to be a bad deal then I will make a claim.

It's in good condition... the top has a tiny dent in it somehow but it hasn't torn the label... PM-ing the images now.

I went to a local antique mall and a manager called me before hand about a box of Atari related paraphernalia.

I went over and her husband had two boxes, one full of Atari games and even a cartridge shelf (Not shown in photos, forgot to take a picture of it)

and the other box full of various cables, controllers, and three different model Atari 2600's. He lowered the price down to $80 for both boxes.

Unfortunately, he was going to sell these on a shelf and labelled them, so I have my fears of restoring these labels.

I have a roster available in the code element of this post, if I wrote something incorrectly, please let me know. I'm trying to keep log of everything I collected.

Here are the pictures I did take.

Unfortunately, he was going to sell these on a shelf and labelled them, so I have my fears of restoring these labels.

Those really shouldn't be too hard to get off- carefully peel up as much of the paper as you can, then gently rub off the remaining adhesive with a soft cloth & lemon furniture polish.

Alternatively, a heat gun might allow you to peel them up entirely.

Alternative-alternatively, you might be able to freeze them off- I was at a game shop the other day, when it was super cold out- the price tags on the carts kept falling off!

I did recently order a hair dryer, that will hopefully do the trick.

Today's pickups include reacquiring a copy of what is likely my second favorite shoot 'em up on any system, Raiden Trad, and one of my childhood favorite Genesis games NBA Jam: Tournament Edition! :D

XINatC2.jpg

With those two games my Genesis library now sits nicely at 30 titles, so I'll have to do a full library pic for my collection thread at some point in the not too distant future.

Funny that I had just got NBA Jam but the SNES version (not the Tournament edition though).

I got this earlier in the year but only opened it now.. N64 Everdrive. Now I just have to dig out the N64

Also I picked up a new soldering iron set by Hakko brand after burning my hand on my old pos one. Although I have yet to break this one out (nothing to solder at the moment).

OK I know it's not games,...but after my Black & Decker coffee maker died I went out and bought a new one...It looks virtually identical! (Which is what I wanted)...

I may have overestimated how long the old one lasted, though...I found a box in the basement and it turns out it belongs to a different but similar Black & Decker coffee maker! This means I had a different one yet all those years ago... Still I think I got at least 6 years out of this one, which is pretty good!

Here's the old and new side by side...I'm gonna try it out tomorrow...(Wait, Later today...)
