R4ngerM4n
Are there any documents, magazine/newpaper articles or books telling when the production of Atari 400 and 800 computers was stopped by Atari?
Rybags
Exact dates - not that I know of. 1200XL supposedly available in 1982 to replace the 800, 600XL wasn't available until 1983, same for 800XL. Whether concurrent production of 1200XL ever occurred with 800 or 800XL, who knows? Possibly some did simply due to get rid of case shells. I remember those magazine ads esp Compute! where there was big listings, 400/800 and parts continued to be listed probably 2 years or more after being officially withdrawn - though Atari did have the habit of stockpiling, even stuff that wasn't selling well. Bryan
Wait, does this mean I shouldn't send in my 800's warranty card?
bbking67
I worked in a store who sold Atari 1200XL computers... after the initial batch, we starting getting 48K 800's again in quantity for part of 83. Then when the 800XL came out everything switched to 600XL/800XL. I have no idea if the 800's were old stock... there may have been a sticker on the box explaining that they were equivalent to the 1200XL (it was a catalog retailer, so these were substitutiuons for the 1200XL).
