TIDIR - backing up ZIP or EZ135 SCSI

I have been trying to backup my TI formatted Zip 100 and Syquest EZ135 disks using the backup under Tools in Fred Kaals WONDERFUL TIDIR.

It works just fine with one computer that is running Windows XP - At least the ZIP drive does - I do not have a Syquest connected to this machine.

My problem is trying to back up using a machine with Windows 98se - This machine DOES have a Syquest drive attached and that's my problem.

On launch of the backup prompt I first get:

W9xGetDiskInfo failed err=0

Then it will open the box to set up the backup.

When the backup is started it will read the disk and then stop stating that sector 640 cannot be read.

It does this same error with the Zip or Syquest disk.

I attempted to email Fred to ask about it but the email in his doc file doesn't work (at least for me).

I am using Fred's latest - 5.5b.

Any ideas?

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this!"

"Well, then, don't do that. See my secretary for the bill."

I'd pull the Syquest from the Win98 machine and (temporarily) install it into the XP machine. Or I'd boot the Win98 machine with a Linux/FreeBSD live CD, dd copy the Syquest drive into a file image, and transfer that to a machine that can handle virtualized drives.

Depends on how much time and effort you want to put into this. Win98 is dead, dead, DEAD.
