TMR
Seems more like, the players were note compatible, and the parts to adapt the notes from one computer to the other is at their intersection. And, ofcourse the code, that was 6502 based on both machines, had only to be adapted to the values of the different soundchips. It's modular yes, there's one general bit of code which handles tracks and sequences that works out which notes need to be played and a second, platform-specific part which pushes those notes to the sound chip and does things like vibrato, slides and so on. From what i understand, the Z80 tunes are all running on the same sequence and note data as their 6502 counterparts as well, so porting involved dumping the note data into the routine (as i mentioned, Hubbard has said his girlfriend did that for the Z80-based drivers) and setting up some appropriate sounds in the machine-specific bit of the code. voy
I merged 59 SID-tunes of Rob Hubbard with SID Player by Święty/Zelax. They all sound great! Xuel
ivop's sid2gumby conversions are worth checking out as well. He makes use of four 16-bit 1.79Mhz channels across stereo pokeys, so the frequency accuracy is very good compared to 8-bit 64KHz channels.

emkay
Really, you should listen to the "emulated" tunes with more accuracy. Particular the melodic part of Cybernoid sometimes takes your ears and shred them in the air. The notes were simply TOO OFF tune. Interestingly , this tune is recognized "original".... and it'S a 4 channel thingy Sadly RMT has this limitations, the raw arpeggios make it too harsh sometimes ..

Well, Using tunes with arpeggio to show how good 16 bit could sound... is ... suboptimal I would be more than enough, if some "RMT" was supporting real 16 bit notes, to play such tunes on ONE POKEY...referring to the "recognizable parts", and well, ofcourse Register-Reset by command and timing correctness ...
