30 new APX manuals and some new APX programs

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

Ballyalley and I have purchased and scanned more Atari Program Exchange programs for archiving. The following links to Atarimania.com now include all disk images and PDFs of all the manuals for download. A few of the links include ATRs of programs that up until now have not been available anywhere. Some are Going to the Dogs by Michael Kirtley and Chinese Puzzle by Dennis Koble.

If anybody has any remaining un-archived APX programs on disk or cassette or the included manuals and want to contribute by either copying or scanning or by donating or selling any of them, please contact one of us.

Nice! I checked a few random pages... and there is a lot of neat stuff there! You didn't mention having trouble reading any of these disks; that's somewhat surprising (but great news). You asked people for help providing software that isn't yet archived, but without a list of what APX software is left that is missing either the software, manual or both, then it's difficult to tell if someone has a missing title. I guess this list can be provided when you finish your APX software database.

I should mention to my friend that we should review some APX game titles (or utilities?) that are on list. He lives locally and we get together an play games every week-- it would be a great opportunity to try some of these long-list games!

Could you remind me of the location of the other APX posting on AtariAge that you made for the last APX update?

No trouble reading any of these disk. I got lucky this time.

To see if any disks or cassettes have been archived you can look at these two pages page on Atarimania.com:

http://www.atarimania.com/list_games_atari-400-800-xl-xe-apx_publisher_1087_8_G.html

http://www.atarimania.com/list_utilities_atari-400-800-xl-xe-apx_publisher_1087_8_U.html

If the D or C are read it has been archived.

If D or C are blue or black they have not been archived.

I will make a list of the programs that have no manuals archived.

Here is the older post about the other set of APX stuff that was archived.

Here is a PDF of the programs and what manuals are not archived.

That's 106 APX programs without manuals. Can you start a seperate thread called something like "APX Manuals Needed" that has these 106 manuals listed in a table? Maybe all the names can start out red (for missing) and then be filled-in with blue (for archived). Or just remove the name when it's archived, although it might be good to show the progress if only the color is changed. How would you get permission to be able to update the table for each change (as otherwise I think a post is closed to edits after one hour).

Some comments on a few missing titles:

Does "De Re Atari" (which has a manual listed as missing) have software and a manaul? I thought it was just a book. That's widely available in pdf-- right? If not, then I have the original, if needed. I used to have "Calculator" too, but it got thrown away about ten years ago. That manual was thick! Man, I used to have "Dog Daze" too. "Dog Daze" was popular; I'm surprised that it hasn't been archived already. I'd forgotten that the 5200 port of "Kangaroo" was released through APX.

It's nice to see so much APX archiving action!

I'll start a new thread.

De Re Atari just needs to be updated on Atarimania. I'll do that soon. I just need to link the page to the book in the book section and upload the ATRs.

You're making me cry with the Calculator comment. :( Well, maybe you can confirm what my guess was. Did it seem to be the same program that Atari released under threir regular line?

Kangaroo I have but the disk is moldy. Yes, moldy. :(

I also just picked up Astrology w/the better manual that has pictures of the author on the back. Just waiting for it in the mail. I also have another source for a few APX programs and manuals but I have to wait a bit on that.

Sorry about getting rid of the Calculator book. I'd gotten it years earlier when someone had given me their collection of Atari stuff, and I had never even booted it. I had looked through the manual once or twice, but it looked pretty complicated. I figured that a calculator would be easier to use, you know? I recall the APX version of the manual being large, but not 200-pages-large like the Atari manual. Plus, the APX manual was not type-set like the Atari manual. Like most (all?) APX manuals it was a rather basic manual; I don't remember it having any images included inside. That's not to say that the program isn't the same though. Heck, maybe the manual was even the same. Please, don't count on my answer on this one. Sorry I couldn't be more definitive and give you a straight answer.

Is it correct that you don't have an original tape copy of Eastern Front?

I might have that....

I hope that you do! Eastern Front on cassette was the only APX program I bought as a kid, and my introduction to the weird genius of Chris Crawford.

Allan, you are doing great!

Btw., anyone knows how APX contracts with programmers looked like? What royalties did they pay to the authors?

There are some applications in the other Atarimania sections.
