7800fan
Having found a PSP with a game for only $12, it works but needed new battery so while I am waiting for a new one, I looked at PSP game list. It's fairly large so someone suggest me a few good games. I prefer RPG, preferably old school overhead type like NES and SNES games. And some shmups. Also good card game but it seems no one makes Euchre. Lucky me I have Euchre rom for 2600 so I can still play it on my PSP when I mod it. So far I got Socom 2 and at a different store today Baseball 2k8 (may sell it), Go Sudoku, and Activision poker game.
Nutsy Doodleheimer
I googled and got this top 100 PSP game list from late 2014. Hope it helps you out on what you are looking for in particular. http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2014/12/23/top-100-best-psp-games-of-all-time.htm
cybercylon
There are a lot of rpgs for the system including some remakes from older system that were either never released here or cost an arm and a leg to track down (e.g.) Star Ocean 1- never released, Star Ocean 2- expensive PS1 title. Cimerians is really into this system and the Vita, so he should have plenty of suggestions. I have about 15-20 titles or so, sitting on a shelf gathering dust. I've been thinking selling it all off, but I've had that thought/plan for over a year, so don't hold your breath. Here are some links.... http://www.rpgfan.com/features/Top_20_PSP_RPGs/index.html You can probably find other list. The good thing is while there are some exceptions, many of these titles can still be found 2nd hand in used game stores without selling off your first born. That may change at some point, but I doubt it will reach ridiculous Nintendo levels....
Austin
Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a must-buy. It's a remake of Ys III, a game that was originally a side-scrolling action-RPG, but now it's top-down and the gameplay is as smooth as butter. Phenomenal soundtrack, too. I can't recommend much else in the RPG department, unfortunately. Ys is where it's at for me, and the only other RPG-ish game I played is the first Legend of Heroes. Terrible experience with that one, unfortunately--wildly predictable after a point in the game and the battles drag on big time. You might like it, but I did not. For other recommendations, the PSP has lots of great compilations, so even if you're not into that sort of thing I always have to toss it out there regardless. Capcom Classic Collections, Sega Genesis Collection, Taito Legends, Namco Museum, EA Classics, Gradius Deluxe Pack, etc., there is a lot of great stuff to be had there if you like classic arcade games. There are also some great retro remakes, like Mega Man Powered-Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (has an unlockable Symphony of the Night on it to curb the action-RPG itch). cimerians
Here's what I play(ed) and liked a lot: Activision Hits Remixed Capcom Classics Reloaded Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles Crush Dead Head Fred Final Fantasy IV: Complete God of War: Ghost of Sparta Gradius Collection Jeanne D'Arc Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Megaman Maverick Hunter X Space Invaders Extreme Taito Legends Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins (hardest version IMO) Wipeout Pure\Pulse I still haven't played other games on it like Tactics Ogre or the Star Ocean remake. Backlogged.
Jess Ragan
Disgaea will devour every moment of your spare time. EVERY MOMENT! The PSP has a terrific library... it's just harder to appreciate it unless you've got one of the later models. The PSP-3000 is the best version of the system, followed closely by the PSP Go. The other ones have too much ghosting for my taste. But getting back to your question, just about any of the classic collections on the PSP are golden. Star Ocean 2 is a slow burn at first but once it hooks you, you'll be playing it for a while. Kingdom Hearts is great, and the same could be said of Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, a prequel to Final Fantasy VII that's way better than the genuine article. 108 Stars
The PSP is a great handheld. After being disappointed with the DS I bought a second Hand PSP and played so much on it... it is probably the best System for RPGs in t he last decade. Star Ocean 1 and 2, Valkyrie Profile, Persona 1 - 3, Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (very oldschool and huge, though 3D graphics from top down), FFIV Complete, FFIII, FF Crisis Core, Tales of Eternia, Breath of Fire III... if you like strategy RPGs Disgaea 1 & 2, Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 2, Growlanser, Jeanne D'Arc...
