ollie1974
Hi all I have just got a vectrex and like many others have thought about perhaps looking into getting into vectrex coding. Some people might say.. "yeah, good luck with that, it's not like programming in BASIC..." but personally im in no rush to get to the top overnight; im happy to spend time on it slowly, learning some each week, ongoing, over the coming months, years.... (some people say the journey is often more fun than reaching the end goal, and this is something i agree with ) getting more people working on games would mean a bigger scene, more games for all, and keep the vectrex alive, healthy, and exciting If there are some folks reading this who are already vectrex developers, could any of them be persuaded to perhaps start a kind of 'vectrex programming course'... starting from scratch, highlighting things such as what tools to use for programming on the vectrex, important stuff to read and learn (could direct us to other articles around the internet), chat about the hardware of the vectrex, compiling/running your own programs on the vectrex, etc... at this point, a dev reading this might think.. "it all sounds good for you but, if im spending some hours each week helping others to learn and answering questions, what's in it for me?" .. well i would propose perhaps something like a paypal fund? personally i would be happy to pay $10 a month to the dev. if 10 other people are also interested in learning vectrex programming, perhaps if they are willing to pay $10 a month also, that would be $100 a month for the dev, who would hopefully spend some hours a week bringing us juniors up to speed, and all importantly: answering our questions as we go along with the learning. we could all help each other out, all learn together. perhaps an idea would be, as a group, write a simple game for the vectrex, starting literally from scratch. it doesnt have to be anything spectacular of course. just something to get us beginners started. so, is anyone interested in this idea? perhaps a dev reading this might consider being the teacher? or, perhaps you, reading this, are also interested in learning vectrex programming? if so, would you be willing to contribute some funds? so that the dev can be rewarded (could buy pizza and so on ) ok, if anyone has any thoughts or comments about this idea, please reply below. if u think it's a bad idea, it's ok, go ahead and say so ..... and finally, long live the mighty vectrex
+5-11under
Potentially a good idea. If I was going to start to program for the Vectrex, I'd start here: http://sebastianmihai.com/main.php?t=57&n=Vectrex-development-Scalar-Ownage Unfortunately, there is no sound in the game, it looks like. I'm sure there are other sources, too... .
Mayhem
Get yourself over here: http://vectorgaming.proboards.com/ A few Vectrex homebrewers hang out there, and there is a specific section of the forums for programming help and development...
