Opry99er
Thought I would chronicle my disk drive cleaning for future viewing... I'm going through my entire disk system and cleaning heads, checking motor speeds, etc.. I'll start with my oldest baby... The original and TRULY retro Shugart 400L. These pix are what the drive looks like right out of the PEB. Pic #1 Stepper Motor and belt Pic #2 Main circuit board (which has to be removed to get to the head--- 2 screws near the front of the board) Pic #3 The actual read head... it is not a foil head like some... It is almost like a porcelain (for lack of a better term)... It is a MIG head, that small strip of dark is the actual metal. Use soft Q Tips and alcohol, and do not rub 'side to side'... Rather, rub backwards and forwards... to avoid inadvertantly causing alignment issues. Coming soon: Mitsumi 3.5 drives, cable testing, and pin/card edge cleaning photos.
