ledzep
Not sure if you guys are aware of Vectorbolt magazine from Fury Unlimited but issue #3 came out recently. It's small format (about the size of a Vectrex game instruction book) and around 28 pages. Mostly reviews of vector games (Vectrex and arcade) and the occasional non-game review/write-up (such as making your own Vectrex controller). I wish the articles were longer (greedy) but I will say that I really like the images of the actual game screens. I buy the occasional copy of Retro Gamer (a full-size, much more professional English mag) when they do write-ups of arcade games or console systems I like, or interview significant game programmers from back in the day, and I have to say that many of their vector game screen pictures suck, too much black, you can barely tell what's on the screen. Anyway, contact Fury at info@furyunlimited.com for more, well, info.
Vectrexer
Like a great thriller or a crafty monster movie, so much of a vector based game leaves much to the imagination to fill in. I think that is the magic of most successful classic titles. Great game play and tease the rest of the imagination with just enough graphics in game and cabinet art to let the player fill in the rest of the story. I have been getting Vectorbolt magazine. Issue 4 is coming up. I like the other issues so far. Similar to classic vector titles, the magazine provides just enough information to be a decent single author work. At the same if you are new to vector game titles it provide enough to motivate the reader to go deeper. With all of the web-based works its nice to have an alternative in paper to curl up and enjoy. Have a look at the new cover here http://geovector.tripod.com/_sgg/m3_1.htm Edited December 1, 2015 by Vectrexer
ledzep
He mentioned the Zektor Vector Generator board in this latest issue. I really wish someone would document hooking one of those up to the Vectrex, along with getting VectorMAME running on a computer (Linux, hopefully, but anything at this point) along with dealing with the USB controller hookups. I have one of those Zektor boards, I want to know what pitfalls there are to getting that specific set-up working. Can you imagine how cool it would be to have a "portable" (Vectrex + laptop + controllers) VectorMAME system on the Vectrex? It would even be superior to the Vectrex itself since games with a horizontal monitor orientation would only require laying the Vectrex on its side. And then, if someone were to make overlays for the different games....
ComputerSpaceFan
VectorBolt Magazine is amazing! ............ then again I contribute articles to it so maybe I'm a teensy bit biased?
