Farb
SoftSide magazine published 20 text adventures under their "Adventure of the Month" program. They were released on both cassette and disk. Does anyone have the following in ATR or CAS format dumped from original media? Or does anyone have any original media they'd be willing to loan to the preservation initiative for dumping? Items with an asterisk indicate there is no known dump I'm aware of so even a non-original dump would be helpful -- and yes, I'm aware that some of them are on compilation disks but that doesn't count #01 - Arabian Adventure #02 - Alien Adventure * #03 - Treasure Island Adventure * #04 - Jack the Ripper Adventure #05 - Crime Adventure #06 - Around the World in Eighty Days Adventure * #07 - Black Hole Adventure * #08 - Windsloe Mansion Adventure * #09 - Klondike Adventure * #10 - James Brand Adventure #11 - Witches' Brew Adventure * #12 - Titanic Adventure (also appears to be known as Dateline: Titanic Adventure) #13 - Arrow One Adventure #14 - Robin Hood Adventure #15 - Mouse That Ate Chicago, The #16 - Menagerie Adventure #17 - Deadly Game, The #18 - Dalton Gang, The * #19 - Alaskan Adventure * #20 - Danger Is My Business Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated! Justin Payne
I an check what I have been given. I'm out right now but I'll look and get back to you as soon as I get home. I just can't give you "Black Hole Adventure". SoftSide stole that from Disney. Edited December 13, 2015 by Justin Payne
Justin Payne
OK, this is what I found. If you find any that don't work, please let me know. I just saw that you didn't want some of them on compilation disks, which some of these are. Sorry about that but take what you need. I hope it helps. BTW: I figured I'd play one of these. No QA was involved in the one I'm playing. :-) #01 - Arabian Adventure #02 - Alien Adventure * #03 - Treasure Island Adventure * #04 - Jack the Ripper Adventure #05 - Crime Adventure #06 - Around the World in Eighty Days Adventure * #07 - Black Hole Adventure * #08 - Windsloe Mansion Adventure * #09 - Klondike Adventure * #10 - James Brand Adventure #11 - Witches' Brew Adventure * #12 - Titanic Adventure #13 - Arrow One Adventure #14 - Robin Hood Adventure #15 - Mouse That Ate Chicago, The #16 - Menagerie Adventure #17 - Deadly Game, The #18 - Dalton Gang, The * #19 - Alaskan Adventure * #20 - Danger Is My Business You can download them here. I'll keep looking for the rest. Edited December 17, 2015 by Justin Payne
Farb
Thanks, Justin. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, some of these are compilation disks and the others are what I can only assume are compiled BASIC versions. So these don't really help on the preservation front but I appreciate your trying to help! The search continues... And yes, some of these games are pretty rough :-)
Justin Payne
Yea, sry about that. I went through what I originally had and it didn't appear to contain of the Adventure stuff so I started Googling but I suspect you did the same. Since I cover SoftSide for the P/M podcast, I have a vested interest in also getting a hold of them even if they aren't directly covered in the magazine OR of any interest to listeners. Some of these games were sorta fun to play back in the day but I think I moved away from typed in programs when I joined that scurvy gang o' pirates. Maybe I enjoyed them because of the hours of typing it took only to find some of them didn't work. ?
Justin Payne
Check out THIS link. Look at the atari8gm.zip. Looks like they have the .BAS of some SoftSide game.
www.atarimania.com
Also missing are the six disks of the Adventure SuperDisk series. These were compilations with three games on each disk (published in chronological order). Since SoftSide switched the format when the 21st adventure was published, there never was a seventh disk. @Farb Please add them to A8SP.
