Dr Galaga
The strangest thing just started to happen. I was going to play Cosmic Ark and some of the sound was missing (big ship flying down, alert when it is time to leave), I could hear faint clicks when the sound was suppose to be there. I then put in Pitfall and the jumping noise is gone (getting hit with barrel sound still there). I totally powered it down and unplugged everything, started it back up and it's still the same. I hooked up my ugly/dirty console and the games work normally. I even cleaned the contacts on the carts. What is wrong? Is an IC going bad? Atariman
As a nearly completely uneducated guess, I'd say it's a bad I.C.... dunno. Ask the friendly folks at Best Electronics. They can usually tell you what part it is (I've never had something that they couldn't diagnose). Dr Galaga
UPDATE: Best Electronics said that this problem could be: Bad TIA chip, and/or Bad audio transistor, and/or 2 bad capacitors next to the audio transistor I went ahead and changed all three things and it's fixed!
