Oldschool80skid
Disappointing News. I had inquired about when more consoles would be available and below is the response. Thank you for your E-Mail dated 01-14-16 Tom. Q. Do you know if you will have any stock of 7800 consoles soon? I am interested in a refurbished A/V modded console. A. Tom for most of 2015 and it now looks the same for 2016, we have been booked solid with more Atari orders than we can ship out in a 7 day work week here. So our over worked (7 days a week) 32+ year Atari Super tech simply does not have any free time to recondition Atari 2600, 7800 Consoles any more. He managed to do it for the last 31 years in the Atari business but it looks like no more Tom. RegardsBradley Koda

Nutsy Doodleheimer
Scared me a bit. For a moment I thought the topic said controllers. I am glad Best is still refurbishing the 5200 controllers. That is my go to place in terms of getting quality 2600, 5200, and 7800 controllers.
+xucaen
I'm glad I got my 7800 when I did, sad I won't be able to get a Vader 2600. I sold my light sixer because I could not repair it. I'm glad they are doing well.

I sold my light sixer because I could not repair it. I'm glad they are doing well. I did recently purchase an A/V modded light sixer from Best for my brother-and-law as a Christmas gift. The console was pristine and looked brand new. It was also a lower serial number unit manufactured in Sunnyvale, CA. If I had known they were not going to sell consoles any longer, I would have purchased one for myself.
AtariBrian
I hope I can still order gold plated joysticks for the next Christmas... He keeps raising the prices on the 2600 gold kits . But they are worth it , make sure you buy a new fire button with it .

Andromeda Stardust
My Best AV 7800 came from them and I love it. Just perfect and works with everything.

Brian R.
A 7800 I bought from them never worked right. Games would spontaneously reset. Was never able to deal with it. Fortunately, I had another, and now two others. The explanation given about being "too busy" doesn't sound legit to me.

It is supposed to add compatability with some PAL games but I imagine dual region homebrews might have issues with detecting the console region. Mine is stock NTSC rainbow loader with composite video and I never had any problems.
hizzy
I contacted them in November, and they had no 2600's for sale. I hope they stay in business. They have so many parts. They're an invaluable resource.

Rick Dangerous
Why don't they hire more people? If demand exceeds supply at your business you are leaving money on the table. They should sell to someone looking to expand services, not contract them.

If they hire unskilled and/or unmotivated workers, then refurbished consoles with sloppy mod jobs may get passed down to the consumer. Maintaining a certain level of excellence in customer service may actually be more important to them than expanding the business, or jacking up prices to reduce the demand.
Goochman
Id find someone external who can do that job - I cant imagine they have 10 orders a day for this. I also cant imagine it takes 2 weeks for the service to be completed. Find an external contractor and set expectations with any customer who wants to purchase one of these that they are produced when paid for. B&C can raise the price slightly and go from there. No reason to say no if there is a 3rd party willing to do the 15-20 of these a year they most likely get. My $0.02

Or they could hire someone with a background in electronics and train them properly. I think they have been doing this for a long time, and may be happy with the income and business level that exists. Too bad because someone hungry could really grow the business and that would be good for us, the retro gaming community looking for these services from a reliable business.
Lynxpro
I'm not recommending this online since it's not tax legal but it wouldn't be the first time a business like that hired a local enthusiast to provide such services in return for in-store credit. atarilovesyou
Speaking of Best, I always wanted to pick up a pair of their upgraded CX40 sticks...but never got around to it. Are they even available anymore? Their website isn't the most user friendly, I just like to click 'add to cart' and be done with it but I think they do things differently. I see their replacement paddle pots are out of stock, but I don't mind doing the cleaning every few years or so with my originals. Any word? I have a pair of pots but I haven't installed yet as my paddles are still in great condition. But the gravy train has to end sooner or later. Best had the pots specially made because replacements were not available. Some of the other parts are NOS from the warehouse but they're not revealing how much existing stock they have per item. If anything lists low stock on the website or minimum purchase per customer, I would take a hint as writing on the walls.
