IMO the TI Faire would benefit greatly by merging with the Vintage Computer Festival Midwest. http://vcfmw.org/

It is still in the Chicago area, there are systems of all types, the event uses a hotel so there is room for presentations, hardware and software swap meet, people hacking hardware (soldering irons are present at the event), etc.

The Chicago TI UG is listed on their friends page, so they are aware of this show. I'm of two minds on this one though--it would be good to have a cross-pollination of vintage computer folks that lasts most of two days, but it would also be good to have that one day of pure TI goodness that is the Chicago Faire.

I tend to agree with you here. I've actually never attended a vintage computer forum outside of the TI, so that should be interesting, but I also like the focus and relevance of a pure TI faire as well.

I like all things retro-computer, so staying "pure TI" is not a priority for me over having an event that has more content, people, activity, variety, and is longer. A lot of people travel a *long* way for the 6-ish hours we currently get in the library. I don't think merging with the VCFMW would prevent the TI crowd from having the TI-specific presentations and such. Anyway, just my opinion.
