AtariSociety
I have been getting back into Atari as of late. Been collecting for some time but not using much. You know, life gets in the way. But being raised in Atari since the early 80s having purchased my own Atari 800, it seems to bring me enjoyment still every now and then. Hoping to find more time to tinker with both 8bit and the ST lines. Even been playing my old 2600 lately. Anyway, never owned a Mega STe so will be excited when it arrives. Maybe I can organize my Atari room and make it all more accessible so I use it more often. Often that room becomes a junk room where we throw stuff that has no home. I need to put an end to that so I can reach my Ataris! TJ Edited May 21, 2016 by macsociety
tjlazer
Cool, does it have a HD 1.44 drive in it? If not, get a Epson SMD-300 drive, it's a direct drop in swap. if you need TOS 2.06, let me know.

Appears to be 2.05. ;-( TJ
Clint Thompson
Looking forward to pics =) I've been finding myself getting more and more back into some Atari things as well and maybe it's because I actually have a little bit of free time here and there! Anyways, Mega STe is probably the best ST you can get for sure!
ataricrypt
That's superb. I also got my first ever Mega STe only late last year and it's an absolute joy. Feels like they finished the ST line with this model. Sure, it's not as powerful as the TT and Falcon but it's a zillion times more compatible and runs everything perfect. Hope you're as happy as me when it arrives Steve
rpineau
Yes, 1.44 but no on TOS. Appears to be 2.05. ;-( TJ If you need a US TOS 2.06 let me know, I can burn you one.
AtariSociety
How easy of a swap is 2.05 to 2.06? Are these roms in an easy access area (under hard drive sled) or elsewhere where a top case removal is in order? I did updated my older Mega 2 from 1.02 to 1.04 in the day and that was easy enough. +DarkLord
It's dead easy on a Mega STe. Without having to take the main cover off, just loosen the screw that holds the hard drive cover on and gently lift the cover up. Watch out for a few wires, but that's about it. Right in front of you is the dip switches, ROMs, memory SIMMs, and the hard drive itself. The ROMs just pop out. Be careful around the SIMMs. The latches that hold them in tightly get pretty brittle with age. HTHs.

tjlazer
Direct chip swap, no jumpers or anything. And the new TOS has a cool Atari logo and memory test that comes up. TOS 2.05 does not, just a plain white screen like previous TOS versions...

I need more time, but getting the HTC Vive has sort of put a hold on playing with my Atari and Amiga!
